Impact Brown dug himself into a hole with a three-over 73 opening round, and while he carded seven birdies in the second round, that hard work was countered by four bogeys, three of which were scored on the back nine. The Englishman was one of the best approach players through the first two rounds, gaining 5.57 strokes with his irons. However, that was mitigated by the 5.81 strokes he lost with his putter. It's been a difficult year for Brown, who has made the cut in only six of 15 tournaments with only two top-25 finishes, one of which was the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (T13). The Open Championship next week presents Brown with the opportunity to change his fortunes; he missed the cut last year at Royal Portrush but finished T10 in his debut at the major in 2024 at Royal Troon.
