Xavier Brown News, Rumors, Updates - Virginia Cavaliers

Does little with seven touches Brown had seven rushes for 19 yards and reeled in 0 of 2 targets for zero yards during Saturday's 38-7 loss to Florida State.

Impact Brown went nowhere fast in the run game, going for just 2.7 yards per attempt. That was the theme of the day for Virginia, as it was snowed under by a suddenly ferocious Florida State defense. There should be a lot more running room for Brown and friends against Syracuse on Saturday night in Charlottesville.

Visits end zone in loss Brown notched eight carries for 71 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 38-27 loss against West Virginia.

Impact Brown took a backseat to Jekail Middlebrook, who had a total of 19 touches, while Brown had nine total touches. However, Brown averaged a healthy 8.9 yards per attempt, and he should see a decent share of the backfield work when Delaware pays a visit to Charlottesville next Saturday.

Impact Brown was able to average 5.0 rushing yards per attempt, while also providing the second-longest offensive play from scrimmage with his 45-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. He and new QB Beau Pribula look to have some nice rapport, and the duo will look to continue that on Friday, Sept. 11, in the next game against FCS Norfolk State.

Cleared for full contact Brown (knee) has been cleared for full contact participation in practice, per Jacquie Franciulli of 247Sports.com.

Impact Brown previously suffered a torn ACL last season and has spent the offseason working through his recovery but appears to be ready to go ahead of the 2026 season opener. The 5-foot-10 running back appeared in seven games for the Cavaliers in 2025, running for 241 yards and one touchdown on 4.7 YPC while adding five receptions for 36 yards and a score through the air as well.

Participating in drills Brown (foot) was observed taking part in Friday's practice, Jacquie Franciulli of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Brown looks to be on right track on his way to recovery from a foot injury that limited him during spring camp. The senior running back's participation in drills indicates he may be nearing full health heading in the season. He still has way to climb up the pecking order but has been a consistent contributor that totaled 51 carries for 241 yards and one touchdown across seven appearances last season.

Not full participant in spring camp Brown (foot) is not a full participant in spring camp, according to Virginia's team website.

Impact Brown was ruled out for the 2025 season by late-October, so the fact that he is still not 100 percent after six months shows just how severe his foot injury has been. It remains to be seen whether or not he will compete in Virginia's spring game come Saturday.

Done for 2025 Brown (foot) is out for the remainder of the 2025 season, per Jacquie Franciulli of 247Sports.com.

Impact Brown missed Week 9 against North Carolina, and he'll sit out the rest of the season as he nurses a foot injury he suffered in the win over Washington State. The tailback ran for 241 yards and a touchdown this fall, also catching five passes for 36 yards and a score. J'Mari Taylor and Noah Vaughn should continue to spearhead the Cavaliers' backfield in his absence.

Out vs. Tar Heels Brown (foot) won't be available Saturday against North Carolina, per Virginia writer Mike Barber.

Impact Brown was helped off the field after getting banged up in the win over Washington State, and appeared unable to put any weight on his left foot as he hobbled off the field. Thus, it's rather unsurprising that the tailback, who has 241 rushing yards, 36 receiving yards and two total touchdowns this season, has been ruled out so early in the week. J'Mari Taylor and Noah Vaughn should handle the majority of the workload in the Cavaliers' backfield.

Helped off field Brown needed assistance to get off the field after suffering an apparent left foot injury Saturday against Washington State, Jacquie Franciulli of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Brown was unable to put any weight on his left foot while making his way off the field, which is not a good sign for his availability the rest of the game. The injury occurred in the third quarter and Brown had just three carries for 14 yards.

10 touches in win Brown totaled nine rushes for 60 yards and reeled in 1 of 2 targets for 15 yards and one touchdown during Friday's 46-38 overtime victory over Florida State.

Impact Brown served as the clear No. 2 back behind J'Mari Taylor in Friday's upset victory, and he delivered his first receiving touchdown of the campaign. The tailback has rushed 42 times for 206 yards and a touchdown while adding five catches for 36 yards and a score.

Scores in Week 3 Brown recorded seven carries for 36 yards and one touchdown and caught their only target for eight yards during Saturday's 55-16 overtime win versus William & Mary.

Impact Brown has seen a consistent role through three games, logging seven or eight carries in each contest. He's been the No. 2 option behind J'Mari Taylor while contending with Harrison Waylee and Noah Vaughn (ankle) for touches. Brown has turned 23 rushes into 91 yards while adding four receptions for 21 yards.

Works in committee Brown posted eight rushes for 28 yards and caught 1 of 2 targets for four yards during Saturday's 48-7 victory against Coastal Carolina.

Impact Brown and J'Mari Taylor served as the top two backs early in Saturday's contest, but Harrison Waylee (seven carries) and Noah Vaughn (10 carries) were in the mix for the final three quarters. Brown and Waylee were listed as second-string running backs, but considering Brown's last touch came in Virginia's first drive of the second half while Waylee remained active until the final drive, it appears as though Brown is the No. 2 option behind Taylor.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Splits first-team reps Brown continues to see first-team reps as the Cavaliers' sort through their backfield room, Jacquie Fanciulli of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Brown split reps with NC Central transfer J'Mari Taylor during the Cavaliers' fall camp. The 5-foot-10 senior handled 80 carries for 488 yards and one touchdown, adding on nine receptions for 127 yards and two more touchdowns in the passing game. Brown figures to have a slight edge given his multi-year experience with Virginia, but Taylor, who is coming off a 1,400 yard season continues to push him for the role.

Partaking in spring ball Brown (collarbone) is practicing this spring for Virginia, per the team's official X account.

Impact Brown broke his collarbone in November and was forced to miss Virginia's regular-season finale against Virginia Tech. The halfback appears to be back at full capacity, however. That's big news for the Cavaliers, as Brown is a favorite to start this fall after an 80-carry, 488-yard, one-touchdown season in 2024.

Scores twice in win Brown posted 15 rushes for 68 yards and one touchdown and hauled in all two targets for 28 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-19 win versus Pittsburgh.

Impact Brown's 15 carries were easily a season high for the tailback and the first time he's taken double-digit handoffs this season. He out-paced Kobe Pace in terms of carries, and turned that into his highest rushing output since Week 4. It was also his first rushing touchdown of the season.

NOVEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Scores in loss Brown logged eight rushes for 19 yards and reeled in their only target for 46 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-20 loss to Louisville.

Impact Brown remains a limited part of this backfield, recording just 19 yards on eight carries. Still, he had a 46-yard touchdown catch that salvaged his day from a fantasy perspective. That was only Brown's fourth catch on the season, so it appears to be more of an exception than anything. Regardless, he'll continue to get between 5-10 carries each week as the second string tailback for the Cavaliers.

OCTOBER 16, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Explodes against Chanticleers Brown accrued nine rushes for 171 yards and gathered in their only target for four yards during Saturday's 43-24 win against Coastal Carolina.

Impact Brown had a massive day, easily pacing Virginia's ball carriers with 171 yards. Brown has been a rotational backup in the backfield, but the tailback had quite the day in Conway. It remains to be seen if this performance will garner him more playing time moving forward, but either way, Virginia has multiple capable runners in its backfield.
