Beginning season as backup
Kukuk will not begin the 2026 season as Louisiana Tech's starting quarterback, Matt Belinson of the Ruston Daily Leader reports.
Impact
Kukuk had the chance to log first-team reps in the spring with Blake Baker still working back from a torn ACL, but Baker will ultimately be the QB1 for the Bulldogs. With that being said, Kukuk's chances at seeing the field this season aren't null. The 6-foot-1 senior will be ready to go, pending an injury or unsatisfactory play by Baker.

Will log first-team reps
Kukuk will log first-team reps Louisiana Tech's spring camp, Matt Belinson of the Ruston Daily Leader reports.
Impact
Blake Baker (knee) remains out, so Kukuk is still Louisiana Tech's best-available quarterback. During 2025, he logged more than 1,000 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns. Using his feet, Kukuk recorded 98 rushing attempts for 609 yards and five TDs.

Balanced output in win
Kukuk completed 9 of 19 passes for 114 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Tuesday's 23-14 win versus Coastal Carolina. He also had 19 rushes for 121 yards.
Impact
Kukuk struggled a bit as a passer, but he was dynamic with his legs, rushing for over 120 yards in his third straight game. The junior quarterback clearly has some developing to do in regards to throwing the football, but he's proven he's a dynamic athlete and that should continue to earn him opportunities, at Louisiana Tech or elsewhere.

Runs all over Bears
Kukuk went 8-for-13 for 87 yards against Missouri State on Saturday. However, he also ran 16 times for 172 yards and three scores.
Impact
Kudos to Louisiana Tech and Kukuk. With the third-string quarterback under center, the Bulldogs won two games to finish the regular season 7-5. The guys who were ahead of Kukuk are both out for the season, so he will get the call in the bowl game. Expect a lot of running the ball.

Big day on the ground
Kukuk went 13-for-20 for 118 yards, but also ran 19 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns, Saturday against Liberty.
Impact
Kukuk started the year as the third-string quarterback, but was elevated to starter owing to two season-ending injuries ahead of him. Clearly, you can see from these numbers were his strength lies. His job is to throw it reasonably well and then contribute in the running game, so expect to see that next week against Missouri State.

To serve as starter
Kukuk will start Saturday's game against Liberty, Bleed Tech Blue reports.
Impact
Kukuk, a third-string quarterback just a few weeks ago, will step into a starting role after Evan Bullock (undisclosed) was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. Starter Blake Baker also sustained a season-ending injury in November. Kukuk has some rushing upside, but he hasn't shown much promise as a passer.

Does a bit on the ground
Kukuk went 5-for-8 for 24 yards and an interception and ran nine times for 39 yards against Wazzu on Saturday.
Impact
Kukuk and Evan Bullock split time under center with Blake Baker (knee) done for the season. Neither threw the ball well, but Kukuk's 39 rushing yards outpaced Bullock's 36 passing yards, so he probably has the edge coming into the final two games. Important games, to be noted, because the Bulldogs are one win away from bowl eligibility.

Backing up Bullock
Kukuk isn't starting Saturday's game against Washington State, Cougfan.com reports.
Impact
Kukuk shared playing time with Evan Bullock last week after starting QB Blake Baker (knee) went down with a season-ending injury. However, Louisiana Tech has opted for Bullock under center to start Saturday's game. Considering they split work previously, it wouldn't be shocking if Bullock yielded some work to Kukuk.

Sees action against Delaware
Kukuk went 3-for-3 for 66 yards and ran nine times for 28 yards against Delaware on Saturday.
Impact
After Blake Baker left the game, both Evan Bullock and Kukuk saw time under center. Bullock played more, but Kukuk played better. If Baker is out against Wazzu next week, maybe Kukuk gets the shot to start.

Healthy but not starting Thursday
Kukuk is available but did not start Thursday's game at Kennesaw State, Kai Millette of The Sentinel reports.
Impact
Kukuk, who was officially listed as questionable for Thursday's contest, is reportedly available for the game after a multi-week absence following his injury in Week 3. Blake Baker took over the starting job in Kukuk's absence and is keeping the job for now despite Kukuk now being available.

Listed as questionable
Kukuk (undisclosed) is listed as questionable for Louisiana Tech's game against Kennesaw State.
Impact
Kukuk wasn't expected to play, as Blake Baker has gotten the start for the Bulldogs in recent weeks. Still, Louisiana Tech could be without its top backup under center, which would force Mason Welch into that role.

Expected to play Week 7
Kukuk (undisclosed) is expected to play Thursday's game at Kennesaw State, Matt Belinson of the Ruston Daily Leader reports.
Impact
Louisiana Tech's latest game, Week 5 at UTEP, did not include Kukuk. For then, the Bulldogs' starting quarterback is Blake Baker, who logged two fumbles (both lost) and an interception. Kukuk's 2025 stats, three games, include only one turnover.

Kukuk (undisclosed) is not on the injury report and will be available to face UTEP on Saturday.
Impact
Kukuk was questionable to play in this Week 5 matchup, but the signal-caller is not only off the injury report, but he could also recover his starting role. Kukuk's return should send Blake Baker to a backup role.

Iffy for Week 4
Kukuk's status is up in the air for Saturday's game against Southern Miss due to an undisclosed injury, Matt Belinson of the Ruston Daily Leader reports.
Impact
Kukuk's playing time is trending downward after beginning the season as Lousiana Tech's starting quarterback. He attempted just three passes in Week 3 while Blake Baker handled most of the playing time. Even if Kukuk is healthy, he may serve as Baker's backup.

Seemingly done as starter
Kukuk went 2-for-3 for 44 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against NMSU on Saturday. He also ran four times for 40 yards.
Impact
As much as Kukuk struggled against LSU last week, it seemed unlikely he would lose the starting gig over it. Yeah, about that. Blake Baker played the vast majority of the starts in this breezy conference win, and he played much better than Kukuk as well. Seems like Kukuk is now in the backup role.
