Suffers season-ending injury
Gotkowski (undisclosed) suffered a non-contact injury during training camp and is out for the 2026 season, according to Steve Helwick of By The Belt.
Impact
This injury occurred before the RedHawks named their QB1, so it ultimately thrust Kansas transfer David McComb into the role. The details of Gostkowski's injury remain unknown, but it is serious enough to keep him sidelined until the 2027 campaign.

Loses three-horse race
Gotkowski will not be Miami (OH)'s starting quarterback to begin the 2026 season, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.
Impact
Gotkowski, Caleb Heavner and David McComb spent the summer in a three-quarterback competition to determine Miami (OH)'s primary option under center to begin the season. The team ultimately chose McComb, a former Kansas player who recently transferred to the MAC. In order for Gotkowski to surpass his 2025 production, which saw him log 690 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns, he will have to wait for McComb to falter; and even then, Heavner would maintain steady competition against the Miami (OH) mainstay.

In three-horse race for QB1
Gotkowski is competing against David McComb and Caleb Heavner to be Miami (OH)'s starting quarterback, according to Cooper Meneghetti of The Miami Student via the G5 Hive podcast.
Impact
Though mobile, Gotkowski is a pocket passer who mostly relies on his arm. Compared to both McComb and Heavner, Gotkowski also has the experience advantage, having completed 38 passes for 575 yards and four touchdowns during Miami (OH)'s 2025 season.

Unimpressive during bowl
Gotkowski completed 6 of 22 passes for 72 yards and one interception during Saturday's 18-3 defeat to Fresno State. He also had nine rushes for 16 yards.
Impact
Given a starting role at the tail-end of Miami (OH)'s 2025 season, Gotkowski briefly stepped up during conference action, but his last two games leave questions about what his 2026 role will be. In back-to-back games, he logged under 100 yards and zero touchdowns, not fulfilling the minimum expectations of what a promising QB1. During 2025, Gotkowski logged 690 all-purpose yards (575 passing and 115 rushing) and five touchdowns, all but one of them rushing.

Limited action in title game
Gotkowski was 7-for-17 passing for 92 yards during Saturday's 23-13 defeat against Western Michigan.
Impact
Gotkowski was limited in Miami's title game loss to Western Michigan, as Henry Hesson saw most of the action at quarterback. In just his fourth appearance of the season, he struggled as the Broncos largely shut down Miami's offense. Gotkowski will now look ahead to the RedHawks' bowl game, where it'll likely be either him or Hesson under center once again.

Three TDs in champ clincher
Gotkowski completed 12 of 24 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns during Saturday's 45-24 victory versus Ball State. He also had six rushes for 44 yards.
Impact
Gotkowski got his second straight start in the RedHawks' regular-season finale, and he ended up logging a career-high day. The redshirt freshman threw his three touchdowns in the first half to put Miami-Ohio up big for most of the matchup, and he helped them sustain the lead with 226 passing yards when it was all said and done. In his two starts this campaign, the 6-foot quarterback completed 25 of 47 passes for 411 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions, along with 18 rushes for 90 yards and one touchdown. Gotkowski will now have the chance to lead his squad to a MAC championship this upcoming Saturday against Western Michigan, which would be huge considering the Hawks lost in the chip last year to Ohio.

Plays bulk of game, delivers win
Gotkowski completed 13 of 23 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 37-20 win over Buffalo. He also had nine rushes for 26 yards with one touchdown.
Impact
Gotkowski filled in after Henry Hesson and the RedHawks couldn't get things going across two drives, and the once QB3 delivered a win for the squad. Gotkowski delivered both on the passing and rushing fronts, throwing and rushing for a touchdown in the second quarter. The redshirt freshman will now likely finish out Miami-Ohio's season as their guy under center, as they look to beat Ball State next Saturday.

Sees rushing role in win
Gotkowski had three rushes for 20 yards. during Saturday's 38-0 win against Lindenwood.
Impact
Gotkowski never threw a pass in the blowout win, but he did come in as a rushing spark. The QB3 converted his three rushes into an impressive 20 yards. He could be utilized more as a runner, especially if starting quartback Daquan Finn (undisclosed) remains sidelined.
