Thomas Castellanos News, Rumors, Updates - Texas Tech Red Raiders

Keeps finding the end zone Castellanos was 1-for-2 passing for 27 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 49-14 victory over Sam Houston State. He also had four rushes for 26 yards.

Impact While Castellanos remains in a backup role, he continued his string of production by throwing a late touchdown against Sam Houston, giving him at least one score in three straight games. With Will Hammond enduring another uneven outing, Castellanos' continued involvement is worth monitoring. He remains more of a deep-league stash for now, but his weekly touchdown streak is becoming difficult for fantasy managers to ignore.

Role shrinks despite Texas Tech victory Castellanos was 0-for-1 passing for zero yards and one interception during Friday's 28-26 win against Houston. He also had one rush for three yards with one touchdown.

Impact Castellanos found the end zone for the second straight week, punching in a 3-yard rushing touchdown, but his overall involvement was limited compared to Hammond's. He also threw an interception on Texas Tech's opening offensive play before transitioning into a situational role for much of the night. The next week of two will be critical for Castellanos' fantasy value. Unless Texas Tech expands his workload again, managers should view him as a risky bench stash rather than a starting option. The rushing upside remains intriguing, but Hammond's strong play against Houston suggests Castellanos may need big plays and touchdowns rather than consistent volume to remain fantasy relevant.

To see additional reps at QB Castellanos will be worked into the offense a bit more at quarterback Friday night against Houston, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.

Impact Castellanos scored his first touchdown as a member of the Red Raiders last week. The team announced they plan to use him some more as a quarterback, though it remains to be seen in what capacity. Regardless, Castellanos figures to be used as both a passer and runner Friday evening in a road test versus the Cougars.

Remains a fantasy wild card Castellanos was 1-for-1 passing for eight yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 35-24 victory over Oregon State. He also had five rushes for 15 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Castellanos carved out a role in Texas Tech's offense, rushing for a touchdown and adding a late scoring pass in the surprisingly competitive game at Oregon State. The former starter isn't seeing enough volume to be fantasy relevant on a weekly basis, but his continued usage near the goal line and in specialty packages remains notable. As long as Texas Tech keeps finding ways to get Castellanos on the field, he'll remain a factor that slightly caps Will Hammond's upside while retaining deep-league intrigue of his own.

Impact Castellanos, who ran through wide receiver drills at his pro day, is reportedly open to being used as a wideout in the Red Raiders' offense. The quarterback currently looks like an insurance policy for Texas Tech's starter Will Hammond, so finding other ways to get the electric athlete the ball may be the Red Raiders' best way to use him. Castellanos is still firmly the QB2, but don't be surprised if Texas Tech gets creative with the explosive athlete.
