Lands at Texas State Atkins will transfer to Texas State, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Impact Atkins spent the 2024 season with Rice, where he tallied 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, and failing to reel in any of his three targets. The 5-foot-7, 177-pound tailback will now head to the Bobcats, where he'll join a running back room already inhabited by Lincoln Pare, Greg Burrell and Torrance Burgess, among others. It seems unlikely that Atkins will leapfrog any of those running backs in the pecking order, but he should provide solid depth in 2025 and could be poised for a bigger role in 2026.

Impact The NCAA's transfer portal has temporarily opened for some players, and that includes Atkins, who has entered without any problem. In 2024, the running back logged 24 carries for 158 yards (6.6 per carry) and two touchdowns with Rice's football program.

Breaks out in Saturday's win Atkins tallied 11 rushes for 91 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 69-7 win versus Texas Southern.

Impact Atkins, a true freshman, led the Owls in rushing attempts Saturday and scored a pair of touchdown in the blowout win. All of his work came with the game firmly out of hand, but it was still great to see what he is capable of. It's unclear where he stands in the running back room moving forward, but more likely than not he will rarely see the field barring a blowout.
