Despite a returning coach, West Virginia lost dozens of players to the transfer portal

The college football transfer portal took a toll on West Virginia

Promising start to career at WVU Fox was 13-for-23 passing for 98 yards and one interception during Saturday's 49-0 defeat to Texas Tech. He also had seven rushes for negative nine yards.

Impact Fox struggled against the Red Raiders, however, did impress in his 10 games with the Mountaineers during his freshman season. He was able to total 1,476 yards and 10 total touchdowns with dual-threat ability. He'll enter the 2026 season as the favorite for the starting job, but it wouldn't be shocking to see West Virginia bring in a more experienced starter via the transfer portal as well.

Multiple TD passes in loss Fox completed 19 of 31 passes for 353 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 25-23 loss against Arizona State. He also had 16 rushes for seven yards.

Impact Fox threw for a career-high 353 yards as the Mountaineers attempted a late rally at Arizona State. Although they fell short and are eliminated from bowl contention, Fox appears to be a legitimate true freshman prospect and could be in play for quarterback on this team in the future. He's totaled 10 touchdowns versus five interceptions in nine games this season. West Virginia will be on a bye next week before finishing the regular season against Texas Tech in Week 14.

Impact Fox led the Mountaineers to yet another win despite throwing a couple of interceptions in the second half of a close game with Colorado. He's thrown at least one touchdown pass in three straight games and has 10+ carries in four straight games. With Fox being a dual-threat player, he has sneaky fantasy potential. They go up against a much better Arizona State team next week.

Impact Fox and the Mountaineers shocked the world as they completely controlled the game in the upset of the Cougars on the road. West Virginia has likely found their starting quarterback as Fox has played extremely well with multiple touchdowns in consecutive weeks. The true freshman is getting better with each performance and has an excellent matchup against a struggling Colorado defense next week.

The Mountaineers had centered their game around the run-game previously as Fox's previous career-high for passing yards was 56 yards. West Virginia competed with TCU, so it's possible they try to do something similar when they play a good Houston team on the road next week.

Impact Jaylen Henderson (undisclosed) is still out. Without him available in Week 6, Khalil Wilkins was West Virginia's starting quarterback, but his unimpressive performance at BYU will allow Fox to be QB1. In place of both Henderson and Wilkins during Week 6, Fox performed relatively admirably, completing all three of his pass attempts for 54 yards.
