The sophomore gunslinger, who started his career at Mississippi State, will now play for his third program in three seasons with South Florida. Considering the Bulls have to replace stud quarterback Byrum Brown, Van Buren should have every opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback gig in Tampa Bay next fall.

Looking to leave Baton Rouge Van Buren plans to enter the transfer portal, Hayes Fawcett of On3.com reports.

Impact Van Buren will leave the Tigers after transferring in from Mississippi State last offseason. The 6-foot quarterback completed 94of 151 passes for 1,010 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions in seven appearances this past season. He'll have two years of eligibility remaining to use wherever he ends up.

Impact Van Buren had easily his best outing of the season as LSU lost a shootout to Houston to close out the 2025 campaign. It was the first time the gunslinger had tossed for multiple touchdowns in a game this season, and he also protected the football after throwing an interception in back-to-back weeks. It'll be interesting to see if Van Buren elects to hang around Baton Rouge and compete for the Tigers' QB1 gig next fall.
