Impact Stepp spent three years at USC before playing in six games last year with Nebraska. The most yards he's every had in a season was in 2019 when he carried the ball 48 times for 307 yards and three scores. Stepp will likely look to see a bigger share of the backfield opportunities at his next school.

Leads backfield in blowout win Stepp recorded 101 rushing yards on 18 carries in Saturday's 52-7 win over Fordham.

Impact Stepp didn't get the first touches out of the backfield but did lead the group by double over his closest challenger in Sevion Morrison. This could bode well for his chances of taking hold of the lead spot on a permanent basis. It will be worth keeping an eye on Nebraksa's depth chart ahead of Week 2.

Impact The team has decided to remain silent on who the official starter at running back will be until the team takes the field against Illinois on Saturday but Stepp is a candidate for the lead role along with Gabe Ervin and Sevion Morrison. The Huskers are hoping to find a player who could handle 20 or more carries per game, a workload Stepp never received over the course of three years at USC.

Looks healthy Offensive coordinator Matt Lubick indicated Wednesday that Stepp (foot) looked 100 percent healthy to him, Brian Christopherson of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Per Christopherson, Stepp was on the field cutting and taking part in most of the drills, which would seem to back up Lubick's claim. Considering Stepp's goal was to be ready for Week 1, it certainly seems like he's on track to accomplish that. It still remains to be seen how the backfield workload will be distributed to open the season, but Stepp figures to be involved given his history of success at USC.
