Leading rusher in opener Hawkins recorded 15 carries for 58 yards and hauled in 0 of 1 targets for zero yards during Sunday's 24-11 loss versus South Carolina.

Impact Hawkins benefited from the absences of Terion Stewart (foot) and Braydon Bennett (knee), logging 10 more carries than any other Hokie running back. Hawkins looks to be headed toward a committee once Stewart and Bennett are available, but for now, he's got a firm hold on the No. 1 role. Hawkins transferred to Virginia Tech from Central Missouri.

Listed as a co-starter Hawkins is listed as a co-starter with Terrion Stewart, per Andy Bitter of Tech Sidelines.

Impact Hawkins is expected to see plenty of carries this fall and could even be the Hokies' top tailback in the opener against South Carolina on August 31. Still, he's sharing the top running back spot with Bowling Green transfer Terrion Stewart for now. Both backs should see plenty of action, but Hawkins has gotten plenty of rave reviews this offseason after transferring over from Central Missouri. One back will likely carve out a lead role, but for now, this is a 1A, 1B situation.

Looks to be among duo of backs Hawkins and Terion Stewart look to be penciled in for carries early in the season, Evan Watkins of 247Sports reports.

Impact Hawkins was among a crew of four backs vying for regular run this fall, competing with the likes of Terion Stewart, Jeremiah Coney and Brayden Bennett. It appears Stewart and Hawkins have emerged from the pile, though head coach Brent Pry suggested there could be a rotation of up to three backs. It remains to be seen exactly how the carries will be split, but Hawkins should at least see a share of them.
