Shelton Sampson Jr. - Suffers knee injury Sampson suffered a knee hyperextension and should be considered questionable for the season opener against Lamar on Sep. 5, head coach Michael Desormeaux told Jamarcus Fitzpatrick...
Impact Sampson figures to be the go-to option in the passing game for the Ragin Cajuns, so his absence could be significant, especially since Landon Strother (shoulder) and Trent Chaney (shoulder) are also carrying questionable tags. Sampson, a massive 6-foot-4 receiver who should be an imposing physical threat when healthy, finished the 2025 season with 32 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns across 10 games.

Trenton Chaney - Wearing non-contact jersey Chaney was wearing a non-contact jersey due to a shoulder injury, head coach Michael Desormeaux told Jamarcus Fitzpatrick of KATC TV3.
Impact Chaney was one of two wideouts using non-contact jerseys Tuesday, with Landon Strother (shoulder) being the other. Chaney is expected to be in the mix for targets in the passing game after a 2025 season in which he caught three passes for 17 yards on four targets. However, it remains to be seen whether this injury will prevent him from playing in the season opener. The Ragin Cajuns open their 2026 schedule against Lamar on Saturday, Sep. 5.

Landon Strother - Dealing with shoulder injury Strother was wearing a non-contact jersey due to a shoulder injury, head coach Michael Desormeaux told Jamarcus Fitzpatrick of KATC TV3.
Impact Strother was praised due to his performances in the spring, and it remains to be seen whether this injury will keep him sidelined long enough to make him miss the opener against Lamar on Sep. 5. Strother was a redshirt in 2025 but caught 10 passes for 78 yards during the regular season.

JJ Garner - Shines in spring game Garner looked good in UL-Lafayette's spring game, per Kevin Foote of The Advocate.
Impact Garner had six carries for 95 yards and two scores when all was said and done in the Ragin' Cajuns' spring game, including a 70-yard touchdown scamper. The redshirt freshman will compete with Steven Blanco and Anthony Reagan, among others, for carries this fall, but he appears poised to carve out a role.
MAY 12 • ROTOWIRE
Landon Strother - Impressing in spring ball Strother has been impressive during Louisiana-Lafayette's spring practices, per Kevin Foote of The Acadiana Advocate.
Impact Strother has continued to produce throughout the teams spring practices, head coach Michael Desormeaux said. The redshirt receiver caught 10 passes for 78 yards during the 2025 season but will look to be more involved on offense during the upcoming campaign.

Shelton Sampson Jr. - Scores in bowl loss Sampson totaled three receptions (on six targets) for 42 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 20-13 defeat against Delaware.
Impact Sampson found the end zone in the fourth quarter, connecting with quarterback Lunch Winfield on an eight-yard pass to bring the Ragin' Cajuns within a touchdown with under eight minutes left in the game. The 6-foot-4 receiver finished the season with 32 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns across 10 games. Barring an entry into the transfer portal, he should be back as a top option within the Louisiana passing attack next year.

Lunch Winfield - Iffy in bowl loss Winfield (undisclosed) was 21-for-36 passing for 231 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Wednesday's 20-13 defeat versus Delaware. He also had 14 rushes for 40 yards.
Impact Winfield totaled over 270 yards, but his efficiency again left something to be desired as he was below 60 percent completion and he threw his seventh interception of the season. The quarterback was a question mark to play, and he'll close out his redshirt sophomore season with a performance that was pretty indicative of how his whole year went. He was good on the ground, with 667 rushing yards and nine scores, but inconsistent through the air, tossing for 1,555 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 58.8 percent of his throws.
DECEMBER 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Zylan Perry - Minimal output in bowl game Perry compiled 10 carries for 25 yards and caught all three targets for 22 yards during Wednesday's 20-13 loss against Delaware.
Impact Despite a rough effort in the bowl game, Perry compiled a solid junior season, racking up 138 carries for 689 yards and a career-best eight rushing touchdowns. He also added career-highs with 16 grabs for 101 yards as a receiver. He'll enter the offseason with one more year of eligibility remaining and should operate alongside Bill Davis in the backfield again in 2026, assuming the pair opts to stick around.
DECEMBER 18, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Landon Baptiste - Plays six snaps in bowl game Baptiste (undisclosed) played six snaps in Louisiana-Lafayette's loss to Delaware in the 68 Ventures Bowl, per Pro Football Focus.
Impact Baptiste caught just two passes for 15 yards this season, so it's unsurprising he was hardly involved in the bowl game. Still, it was good to see the receiver on the field after he four of the team's last five games.

Lunch Winfield - Expected to play Winfield (undisclosed) is expected to play in the team's Dec. 17 bowl game versus Delaware, per Dawson Eiserloh of ESPN.
Impact Winfield is expected to start at quarterback, but if he ends up being, Walker Howard could also see some playing time. Winifield has posted 1,195 passing yards, 479 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns so far this season and will look to add to his totals versus Delaware.
