Impact Sam Houston probably isn't a big enough program to fire Phil Longo after one season, but this was one of the worst 2-10 teams in FBS history. Late in the season Longo turned to true freshman Locke at quarterback, perhaps in hopes it would earn him some cache with his bosses. Not so much, as Locke did not look like a viable FBS player this season.

Impact Locke was not efficient, given that he needed 40 passing attempts to get to 281 yards. Last week it took 38 passes to get to 213 yards, by the way. However, Locke is a true freshman and this is just about getting him some experience and seeing if maybe he's an option for 2026.

Impact Locke is set to make his second straight start Saturday, firmly establishing himself over Mabrey Mettauer. Locke was not great in his first start versus Delaware, so he'll look to put up a better performance in Saturday's road contest.

Impact It's not surprising that Locke got his first career start, given that Hunter Watson (knee) was hurt and Mabrey Mettauer has been horrendous. Now, the true freshman didn't do much of anything, but he didn't turn the ball over and Sam Houston won, and that's kind of enough with this team in 2025.

Impact Locke was in a battle with Mabrey Mattauer for the starting role due to the absence of Hunter Watson (knee). However, the fact that Locke was seen taking warmups with the first-team offense suggests he'll get the nod under center. Locke has made three appearances this season, completing 16 of 33 passes for 150 yards with a 1:1 TD:INT.

Impact Hunter Watson (knee) is out for Week 12, so Sam Houston will need a temporary starting quarterback against Delaware. Even though Locke does not look like the favorite, there is still a chance he is SHSU's main man under center. Each of his last three games include somewhere between 40 and 70 yards with a total of one touchdown.

Impact With Hunter Watson (knee) out, Locke and Mabrey Mettauer both played. While Mettauer wasn't good, Locke was awful, so if Watson can't play next week Mettauer will likely be the definitive quarterback.

Impact Locke, a freshman, was making his collegiate debut. Obviously, that wasn't the plan. Mettauer was only starting because Hunter Watson (undisclosed) was out. While Locke comported himself well, it seems unlikely he will jump to the top of the depth chart if everybody is healthy.
