Landry Lyddy News, Rumors, Updates - Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Won't start in Week 1 Lyddy won't be the starter in Saturday's Week 1 matchup against Alcorn State, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Lyddy was competing with Ethan Hampton for the QB1 role, and while both players were listed as co-starters, Hampton ultimately got the nod. Expect Lyddy to be ready as the QB2, though, as he has experience in that role. He appeared in four games for Southern Miss in 2025, and he made five appearances for UAB between 2023 and 2024 as well.

Tabbed as co-starter under center Lyddy is listed as the co-starter at quarterback for Saturday's Week 1 matchup against Alcorn State, according to Big Gold Nation.

Impact Southern Miss are listing both Lyddy and Ethan Hampton as co-starters under center for the season opener, but it remains to be seen who -- if any -- will operate as a true QB1. Lyddy played in four games for Southern Miss in 2025, completing 34 of 52 passes for 406 yards and a 2:3 TD:INT.

Lyddy will now look to continue his development under the eye of former NFL quarterback and longtime quarterback tutor Trent Dilfer, who took the Blazers' head-coaching position in early December.
