Enters transfer portal Tomlin has announced that he has entered the transfer portal, Chris Hummer of 247Sports.com reports.

Impact Tomlin appeared in eight games for Georgia Southern last season, throwing for 977 yards (74-of-143), two touchdowns and nine interceptions, while adding 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 80 attempts. The 5-foot-11 redshirt junior has struggled in his three seasons with the Eagles, and he will look to get a fresh start with a new program next season.

Forgoing final year of eligibility Tomlin decided to forgo his final year of eligibility with Georgia Southern in 2022 and graduate from the university last year, Andrew Goldstein of WSAV.com reports.

Impact Tomlin started seven games in 2021, passing for 977 yards, two touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding 195 yards and a touchdown with his legs. Georgia Southern has many options to replace him in 2022 with returning quarterbacks Cam Ransom and Connor Cigelske representing two of them. Additionally, sixth-year senior Kyle Vantrease transferred to the school from Buffalo this offseason.

Impact Tomlin was expected to be the Week 1 starter this season, but unfortunately academics have got in his way. This will mean he will miss games against Gardner-Webb and Florida Atlantic, but appears on track to return Week 3 against Arkansas. It will be either up to Samuel Kenerson or Cam Ransom to hold down the fort under center in the interim. Luckily they still have a full month to get ready for the job.

Impact The Eagles will be looking to break in a new starter at the position in 2021 after longtime top signal-caller Shai Werts transferred to Louisville this offseason. As one of the more experienced options in the Eagles' quarterback room, Tomlin will open camp with the first-team offense, though he'll still have to hold off the likes of Samuel Kenerson and Cam Ransom for the top job. During his collegiate career, the redshirt junior has completed 23 of 51 pass attempts for 323 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing 69 times for 392 yards and three scores. Tomlin underwent ankle surgery in December, but his inclusion atop the depth chart ahead of camp suggests he's healthy again.
