Makes switch to receiver in spring Gatewood has moved to receiver this spring, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Impact The former quarterback will now try his hand at receiver as he attempts to lock in more playing time. If he transitions well, Gatewood could be an asset in the passing game. Gatewood is athletic and checks in at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, so he would give opposing defenses a different look than Central Florida's other smaller, speedier pass-catchers.

Immediately eligible Gatewood has received immediate eligibility to play for the Knights in 2021, Jason Beede of 247Sports.com reports.
Impact Gatewood was initially deemed ineligible to play this season after landing at UCF last week due to it being his second transfer in college. The redshirt junior decided to leave Kentucky after just one season once Will Levis was named the team's starting quarterback for the 2021 season. Gatewood is still expected to hold a backup role with the Knights behind Dillon Gabriel. Gus Malzahn has publicly stated he thinks Gatewood is extremely talented and can provide value to the team, suggesting he may have a plan to get him involved in the offense in some fashion.

Chooses UCF Gatewood has decided to transfer to UCF, Brandon Marcello of 247Sports reports.
Impact Gatewood decided to move on from Kentucky after he lost the out on the starting job to Penn State transfer Will Levis over the weekend. He's found a new home quickly but doesn't seem to be positioned any better to see the field behind Dillon Gabriel. However, Gabriel could elect to enter the 2022 NFL Draft following the season, which would then leave the starting job open.
AUGUST 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
On outs from Kentucky Gatewood officially entered the transfer portal Monday and is set to move on from Kentucky, 247Sports.com reports.
Impact Gatewood will be leaving his second SEC program after he a member of Auburn's 2018 signing class before he transferred to Kentucky ahead of the 2020 season. After being granted a waiver to compete for the Wildcats last fall, Gatewood served as the understudy to Terry Wilson and completed 17 of 35 attempts for 109 yards and an interception while adding 62 yards on the ground. Heading into his redshirt junior campaign, Gatewood was in competition with Penn State transfer Will Levis for the starting job, and the former ultimately elected to explore his options elsewhere when Levis was named the No. 1 option. Gatewood still has two years of eligibility remaining, but since he already used his one-time waiver, he won't be able to compete in 2021 if he lands at another school.
AUGUST 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Expected to enter transfer portal Gatewood is planning on entering the transfer portal after losing the starting quarterback job to Will Levis, Josh Moore of the Lexington Herald-Leader reports.
Impact Gatewood seemed to be the leading candidate to begin the 2021 season as Kentucky's starter as he was taking first-team reps earlier this month. Now that Levis was officially given the starting job, the Auburn transfer will likely be looking for a new program for the second time in as many years. He's completed 22-of-43 passes for 163 yards with another 238 rushing yards in 14 career appearances. If Gatewood officially enters the portal, Beau Allen would stake his claim as Levis' backup.
