Handles No. 1 role
Eschenbach caught all five of his passes for 32 yards during Saturday's 34-10 loss to Illinois.
Impact
Eschenbach recorded career-highs in receptions yards and targets after stepping in as the Badgers' top receiving tight end Saturday. With previous starter Clay Cundiff (leg) likely set to miss the remainder of the season, the senior matched his total number of receptions over the previous two campaigns as quarterback Graham Mertz tossed a season-high 32 passes again Illinois. Eschenbach likely will retain a relatively prominent role in Wisconsin's passing game moving forward.

Practicing this fall
Eschenbach (shoulder) has participated during Wisconsin's full-team sessions in fall camp, Colten Bartholomew of The Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Impact
Eschenbach missed time throughout the 2021 campaign due to injury, but he has returned to the practice field this fall after undergoing shoulder surgery in April. The 6-foot-6 tight end was consistently targeted by starting quarterback Graham Mertz during first-team 11-on-11 sessions Saturday, according to Bartholomew. Eschenbach and junior Clay Cundiff should combine to help make up for the loss of four-year starter Jake Ferguson -- Wisconsin's team leader in receptions over the past two seasons.

On mend from shoulder surgery
Eschenbach underwent offseason shoulder surgery, Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact
Eschenbach has been sidelined during spring practice as he recovers. Wisconsin is looking to restock at the tight end position following Jake Ferguson's departure and Eschenbach could be an option at that spot once he's back to full health.

Sits out pracice
Eschenbach (undisclosed) wasn't in uniform for Tuesday's practice, Evan Flood of 247Sports reports.
Impact
Eschenbach was unavailable to close 2022 in the bowl game but had previously carved out a role on offense, primarily working as a blocker over the last five games. He could slot into a larger contributing role this season but it certainly doesn't help that he's sitting out.

Back in practice
Eschenbach (arm) reeled in a 50-yard pass during Wednesday's practice, Evan Flood of 247Sports reports.
Impact
Eschenbach was limited in practice last week due to an arm injury but appears to be past the issue at this point. He should serve as depth at the tight end spot and could see the field on occasion.

Dealing with arm injury
Eschenbach was a limited participant in practice Tuesday due to an arm injury, Evan Flood of 247Sports reports.
Impact
Eschenbach collected just two passes for 27 yards on three targets last season but could be valuable depth at tight end entering 2021. He and Hayden Rucci figure to be the top two tight ends behind Jake Ferguson.
