Impact Stowers didn't see much of the field as a freshman last year but could challenge for a larger one in 2022 with Jalen Wydermyer moving on to pursue an NFL career. Stowers worked as the second-string tight end during parts of fall practice last year and saw some work early, so there is some track record to suggest he could see more work.

Impact It's worth noting that Baylor Cupp (leg) is still limited in practice, which may be the reason Stowers is working with the second unit. Still, it does appear the freshman has quickly moved up the depth chart after transitioning from quarterback to tight end ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Shifts to tight end Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said Sunday that Stowers has been moved from quarterback to tight end ahead of training camp, Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact The Aggies could revisit moving Stowers back to quarterback at some point later in 2021, but with only Haynes King and Zach Calzada in legitimate contention to replace NFL-bound starter Kellen Mond under center, the true freshman will change positions in an effort to gain playing time in his first year in College Station. Stowers' size (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) and athleticism should help him in the transition, but he'll still be hard pressed to find consistent snaps at tight end behind Jalen Wydermyer, who tallied 46 receptions for 506 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in 2020.
