Impact Lonergan went 5-of-10 for 67 yards before leaving the game and was replaced by AJ Surace, who did little for the Scarlet Knights. Lonergan gets the benefit of a bye week to recover, although the textent of the injury is unknown at this point.

Continues to improve in blowout Lonergan completed 12 of 17 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns during Friday's 58-7 victory versus Howard. He also rushed twice for 14 yards.

Impact Lonnergan built on the late surge he directed against USC last week and picked apart an inferior FCS opponent. Lonergan's total would have been higher, but he was pulled and replaced by AJ Surace once the game was well out of hand. It appears that Lonergan has successfully separated himself from Surace in the quarterback race after getting benched in Week 2 following a horrible performance in the opener against UMass.

Starting vs. Trojans Lonergan will be starting under center during Saturday's game against USC, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.

Impact Lonergan will be starring over AJ Surace after returning from a one-game injury. The senior quarterback completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions on his lone start this season. He will need to take care of the ball against a tougher USC defense.

Available Saturday Lonergan (undisclosed) is off the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against USC.

Impact Lonergan was on the injury report leading up to the matchup as he dealt with an undisclosed injury but appears to have moved past it. The senior quarterback returns after a one-game absence.

Listed as probable Lonergan (undisclosed) is probable for Saturday's game against USC.

Impact Lonergan was considered week-to-week, but it appears he has a good chance of suiting up Saturday. The quarterback will look to reclaim his starting job, though there is no indication yet of whether he will start against the Trojans if healthy. AJ Surace drew the start in Week 2 during his absence.

Week-to-week Lonergan (undisclosed) is considered week-to-week ahead of Saturday's game against USC, Pete Nakos of On3.com reports.

Impact Lonergan, who sat out during Saturday's 28-21 loss against Boston College, remains week-to-week with an undisclosed injury. The 6-foot-2 senior opened the season as the Scarlet Knights' starter before losing his spot following a disastrous start against UMass. AJ Surace will continue to start for the Scarlet Knights in his absence and it is unclear if Lonergan will get the job back when healthy.

Inactive for Week 2 Lonergan (undisclosed) won't suit up for Week 2 and isn't available for Rutgers against Boston College on Friday night, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.com.

Impact Lonergan committed four turnovers in Rutgers' disastrous season-opening loss at the hands of UMass. That got him benched in favor of AJ Surace ahead of Week 2, but now the gunslinger isn't even available off the bench for Rutgers against the Eagles, and it's currently unclear why. That leaves Sean Ashenfelder as Surace's backup.

CFB Week 1 Superlatives: Michigan's Hail Mary, Lane Kiffin's LSU Debut And CFP Effects

Benched after UMass disaster Lonergan has been demoted to QB2 for Rutgers, as head coach Greg Schiano announced he'd start AJ Surace in Week 2 at Boston College, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Impact Lonergan looked lost in Week 1, and if your starting quarterback looks lost against UMass, he may not be of Big Ten caliber. The gunslinger threw three interceptions, two of which were extremely ugly throws. He also lost a fumble against the Minutemen, meaning he accounted for four turnovers in Week 1. That's simply not winning football, and so the Scarlet Knights turning to Surace for Week 2 isn't a surprise.

Uneven in upset loss Lonergan was 16-for-29 passing for 242 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions during Thursday's 37-21 loss to Massachusetts. He also had seven rushes for -14 yards.

Impact Rutgers' defense was atrocious, but Lonergan didn't do much to help matters. The Boston College transfer was accurate in the opening quarter, but as the fumbles, interceptions, and inaccurate passes piled up, the outcome became increasingly obvious. If he continues to falter, he may lose his job to AJ Surace.

Starting quarterback for Week 1 Lonergan will be Rutgers' starting quarterback Sept. 3 at Massachusetts, Pete Thamel of ESPN reports.

Impact Rutgers' quarterback competition boiled down to Lonergan and team mainstay AJ Surace before the team ultimately decided on the Boston College transfer. The former began his career with Alabama before enrolling at BC in 2025, where he broke out in terms of production. That year, Lonergan completed 190 of 284 pass attempts for 2,025 yards and a 12-5 TD-INT ratio. Though those numbers offer promise, they came with huge highs and just as low lows: he went four games without a touchdown and lacks the legs to make something with his feet. Still, it helps that Lonergan is more proven than a lot of FBS quarterbacks, and he will look to prove why the Scarlet Knights putting their faith in him was warranted.
