Staying in the Lone Star state Smith announced he will transfer to Houston this coming season, Sam Khan of The Athletic reports.

Impact Smith will head to Houston after spending the first three seasons of his collegiate career with Texas Tech. The 6-foot-5 dual-threat quarterback saw significant playing time over the first five games of the 2022 regular season, completing 142 of his 213 passes for 1,475 yards and an 11:7 TD:INT ratio to go along with 67 carries for 93 yards and four more scores. However, this came in a platoon approach at quarterback for the Red Raiders, and Smith largely fell out of this rotation over the final seven games of the season. He should have two remaining seasons of collegiate eligibility.

Practices Tuesday Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said Smith (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.

Impact Smith was held out of the team's matchup against Oklahoma State due to an undisclosed injury, but he returned to practice Tuesday and has a shot of reclaiming his spot as the starting quarterback. Before being sidelined, he'd submitted back-to-back 300-yard passing games.

Outside of struggling at NC State, Smith has been one of the best quarterbacks in the nation from a fantasy perspective. He'll need to bring his best game to compete at Oklahoma State next week.

Impact Smith returned to fantasy relevance with three total touchdowns and no turnovers against the Longhorns. He's recorded a rushing score in three straight games and is averaging 50 passing attempts per game in those three starts. Until Tyler Shough makes his way back to the line-up, Smith needs to be in fantasy line-ups simply due to the amount of opportunity he gets in a game. Texas Tech will play at Kansas State next week.

Impact Smith had all kinds of trouble against a stingy Wolfpack defense that completely shut down the Red Raiders' rushing game. After opening the season with four touchdown passes, Smith has went a different direction with just three touchdown passes and five interceptions in his two starts. When Tyler Shough does come back from the collarbone injury, it's not out of the question that he'll get the starting job back. Impact Smith took over at quarterback last season when Tyler Shough sustained an injury after four games and he is still trying to reclaim the starting role. The senior is also competing with Behren Morton and although coach McGuire has said he has a starter in mind, he has not revealed the player. Smith threw 85 completions for 1,181 yards and seven touchdowns through nine games in 2021, and will hope that his experience combined with his fall camp performance are enough to award him the QB1 title.
