The 6-foot running back found the end zone on a one-yard plunge in the first quarter and followed up with scoring scampers of 27 and three yards in the second frame to help build an insurmountable lead. Coming off a bit of a lost season due to injury, Taylor started off with a step in the right direction in Week 1, but will get a tougher test against Mississippi State on Saturday.

Taylor has been a tremendous tailback in Minneapolis, but he's had problems staying on the field. His freshman season, he played in just six games. As a sophomore, he missed the opener. Last fall, he played in 10 games. He'll be the Gophers' unquestioned top tailback once again in 2026, and with a renewed focus on staying healthy, he could be primed for his best season yet.

Impact This is a massive development for Minnesota as Taylor is arguably the most talented player on the Gophers' roster. Still, he remained the same dynamic playmaker more often than not, and his return gives head coach PJ Fleck a huge piece to build his 2026 offense around.

For 2025, he recorded 143 rushing attempts, 915 all-purpose yards (670 rushing and 245 receiving) and four touchdowns. Though all that is slightly down from 2024, the data is excellent and showcases what has been expected of Taylor throughout his collegiate career. If he chooses to re-enroll at Minnesota or use his senior year of collegiate eligibility, his return would be a big deal.

Impact Taylor had a productive outing against the Badgers, running for 100 yards and a touchdown on the day. The 6-foot running back saw a large portion of his production on a single play, running for a 49-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Golden Gophers a 10-0 lead at the time.
