Impact Mensah struggled versus a solid Oklahoma defense Saturday as he completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes and turned the ball over twice for the second straight week. He tossed a touchdown to Makhi Hughes and had another chance to taken away, as backup Ty Thompson came into the game and threw a seven-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Mensah's two toughest games are now behind him and he will look to get back on track Saturday at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Strong performance in close loss Mensah was 19-for-29 passing for 342 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 34-27 loss versus Kansas State. He also had eight rushes for negative nine yards.

Impact Mensah put together an impressive performance -- with the exception of a couple plays -- as he nearly lead the Green Wave to a massive upset. He threw for nearly 350 yards and tossed two touchdowns, both to Alex Bauman. His performance was not without costly mistakes though. With the game tied midway through the fourth quarter, he lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by the Wildcats. Then, on the final drive he threw an interception in the redzone to clinch the game for Kansas State. While it was not a perfect performance, the freshman showed massive upside and clearly has the tools to put up elite numbers when conference play begins.

Impact Mensah was surprisingly named as the team's starting quarterback ahead of Thursday's contest, beating out last season's backup Kai Horton and Oregon transfer Ty Thompson to the starting job. He proved why on Thursday, tossing for over 17 yards per attempt and throwing two touchdowns. While both Thompson and Horton got some playing time, after a strong debut it appears that Mensah will be the starting quarterback for the Green Wave.

Starting season opener Mensah has been named as the starting quarterback for Tulane's season opener against Southeastern Lousiana, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.com.

Impact Mensah was recently listed as a co-starter along with Kai Horton and Ty Thompson on Tulane's official team depth chart, but it appears the redshirt freshman has earned the starting job to start the season. The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Mensah was a late addition to the position battle, but the 6-foot-3 freshman will get his chance to shine in week 1.
