Not named QB1
Mahan will be the Blue Devils' starting quarterback for their regular-season opener Sept. 5 against Tulane, Pete Thamel of ESPN reports.
Impact
For the 2026 Blue Devils' first game, their starting quarterback is Walker Eget, an experienced transfer San Jose State lost last offseason. Until further notice, Mahan's student-athlete career will remain statless. He did not play any of Duke's 2025 games.

In mix for QB1 gig?
Mahan is splitting first-team quarterback snaps with Walker Eget, as Duke head coach Manny Diaz said Wednesday that both players worked with the No. 1 offense during offense drills...
Impact
It seems Mahan remains firmly in the mix for Duke's starting quarterback role, although Walker Eget is also a candidate to open the campaign as the Blue Devils' QB1. His practice usage with the first-team offense suggests the competition is still open heading into the season, but the next few weeks will be decisive to determine who will get the nod under center when Duke opens the season against Tulane on Sep. 5.
