New quarterback, high hopes: What to expect from the Louisville Cardinals this season

The Louisville Cardinals have enough success in coach Jeff Brohm’s first two seasons that newcomers can’t wait to do their part knowing the high expectations for this program

Records touchdown Lacy hauled in 3 of 6 targets for 17 yards and one touchdown during Tuesday's 35-34 victory against Washington.
Impact Before 2025, Lacy logged one more game, a bowl matchup that does not officially count for his 2024 regular season. The wide receiver's touchdown marked his first and only TD this year. Even with a limited output during 2024, Lacy's latest performance showed some glimpse of what Louisville's team had been hoping for while he was healthy. Once an excellent wideout for South Alabama, perhaps he can replicate said excellence during his 2025 season with Louisville.

To return for 2025 Lacy will return to Louisville for the team's 2025 season, Matthew McGavic of SI.com reports.
Impact Lacy will look to finish off his collegiate career with Louisville. He enrolled there with the intent to finish off his career in 2024, but an early-season injury prevented maximization of that year being materialized. Lacy will give it another go in 2025, a year in which he is expected to be one of Louisville's top wideouts. The senior showed what he could do in his few 2024 games, them added up creating a combined total of 15 receptions and 179 yards.
DECEMBER 3, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Opts out of remainder of season Lacy has elected to opt out the remainder of Louisville's 2024 season, Jody Demling of 247Sports.com reports.
Impact Lacy has only played in four games, meaning he can chalk 2024 up as a redshirt season. He hauled in 15 catches for 179 yards this fall, but will now look towards 2025. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him enter the transfer portal, either.

Solid day in loss to Miami Lacy caught 4 of 5 targets for 57 yards during Saturday's 52-45 loss against Miami (FL).
Impact Lacy caught four passes racking up over 14 yards per reception in the shootout loss to Miami.
OCTOBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Officially active Saturday Lacy (collarbone) will appear in Saturday's game against Notre Dame, Matt McGavic of SI.com reports.
Impact Lacy will return to action against the Fighting Irish after suffering a broken collarbone during fall camp. The 5-foot-10 senior wideout will look to make a splash in his debut after putting up 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns with South Alabama last season, but he will have to do so against a formidable Notre Dame squad.
SEPTEMBER 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Working with starters in warmups Lacy (collarbone) is working with the starting unit during warmups ahead of Saturday's game versus Notre Dame, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Lacy was expected to make his way back into the mix this week after missing the first month of the campaign due to a broken collarbone, and warmups seem to further that notion. Lacy figures to find a regular role on offense moving forward as the team's slot receiver, which could pay dividends in a Jeff Brohm offense.
SEPTEMBER 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Expected to suit up Lacy (collarbone) is expected to make his season debut during Saturday's matchup with Notre Dame, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Lacy is expected to "give it a shot" in Week 5 after suffering a broken collarbone in fall camp. Lacy returned to practice this week, but he was seen wearing a yellow non-contact jersey throughout the week. The 5-foot-10 senior wideout, who put up a monster season with South Alabama last season before joining the Cardinals this offseason (91 receptions for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games), will likely be eased back into action. When fully integrated into the system, Lacy is expected to be a top option in the Cardinals' passing attack.
SEPTEMBER 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Game-time decision Saturday Lacy (collarbone) is a game-time decision for Louisville's game Saturday at Notre Dame, Matt McGavic of Sports Illustrated reports.
Impact Louisville fans awaiting Lacy's availability will have to wait until Saturday to see if he can play again. He presents himself as an intriguing option while available, especially now that Jadon Thompson (knee) being unavailable for the remainder of 2024 requires UofL to look at other options outwide.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Could be available at Sept. 28 Lacy (collarbone) could be available during Louisville's game scheduled for Sept. 28 at Notre Dame, Matt McGavic of SI.com reports.
Impact During mid-August, Louisville announced Lacy would be out for at least six weeks because of a collarbone injury. UofL's head coach Jeff Brohm is hopeful the injured wideout will be available on Sept. 28.

Impact The Cardinals' offense takes a massive hit here. Lacy was one of the most dynamic receivers in the sport a season ago for South Alabama, racking up 91 catches for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns. He was slated to be the top wideout for Louisville, but now other pass-catchers such as Chris Bell, Ja'Corey Brooks and Jimmy Calloway will need to step up in his absence.
AUGUST 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ends regular season on high note Lacy notched 11 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 52-44 defeat versus Texas State.
Impact Despite being forced to deploy backup QB Desmond Trotter after Carter Bradley went down with a knee injury, Lacy managed to turn in a strong stat line. He led South Alabama in receptions and receiving yards. He'll finish the regular season with the fifth most receiving yards (1,316) and catches (91) in the nation.

Keeps 100-yard streak alive Lacy totaled nine receptions for 103 yards during Tuesday's 55-3 victory versus Southern Miss.
Impact For a sixth straight game, Lacy surpassed the 100-yard mark, this time sneaking by with 103 yards on nine receptions. Despite South Alabama's offense scoring seven touchdowns, Lacy was unable to find paydirt with each of the seven scores coming on the ground. With 826 yards through seven games, Lacy ranks fourth in the country in receiving yards per game at 118.0 yards.
