Impact Sullivan took over for Jake Retzlaff in the third quarter of this week's game after the starter threw his second interception. In relief, the Iowa transfer threw his second touchdown pass of the season and used his legs for a season-high 27 rushing yards. It's unlikely, but a quarterback change could be possible at Tulane, especially given Sullivan's experience.

Impact Jake Retzlaff will continue to be Tulane's starting quarterback. On the plus side, Sullivan's snap count likely will increase Saturday. But unless Retzlaff either struggles or suffers a problem, his backup quarterback's statistical upside remains incredibly limited.

Impact Sullivan's return to the practice field is obviously a good sign, although his status remains uncertain for the opener against Northwestern. He's been competing with ex-BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff for the starting gig, although Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall said he won't name a starter until, quite literally, the minute before kickoff. Thus, we may not even find out if Sullivan is fully healthy by Saturday if Retzlaff is the starter.

However, the more time Sullivan's injuries take up, Jake Retzlaff gets increased opportunities to showcase why he should be their primary quarterback. As recently as early-August, the two have split first-team reps.

Impact Tulane's team has had no problem bringing as many proven quarterbacks as it possibly can to compete for the team's QB1 position. Already, the Green Wave are dealing with a mix of Kadin Semonza, Donovan Leary and TJ Finley. What Sullivan brings to the table is a bevy of Big Ten experience despite zero of his three seasons including at least 1,000 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns. Yet, each of his three seasons saw him get relatively close to both marks. In 2024, Sullivan logged 38 completions for 475 yards and three touchdowns to go with 47 carries for another 150 yards and four rushing TDs.

Impact Sullivan will explore opportunities to contribute elsewhere after spending one season with the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-4 junior quarterback, who previously appeared with Northwestern, has thrown for 1,777 yards (172-of-248), 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions across his three-year collegiate career. Sullivan, who also added 407 yards and seven scores on the ground, has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
