Simpson has committed to play for Michigan for the 2025 season, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.com.
Impact
Simpson will join the Wolverines following two seasons with UMass. The former Arizona transfer caught 57 passes for 792 yards and three touchdowns for the Minutemen in 2023 before leaving the program during the 2024 season in which he appeared in just three games. The senior receiver will retain a single year of eligibility with Michigan.

Spotted warming up
Simpson (undisclosed) was seen warming up ahead of UMass' tilt with Central Connecticut, per Andrew Samaha of 91.1 WMUA.
Impact
Simpson missed Week 3, but appears to be on track to return. There's a chance the receiver still can't play, but this is a positive sign early before kickoff. Simpson has logged three catches for 16 yards this season.

Doesn't play in Week 3
Simpson (undisclosed) didn't play in Saturday's loss to Buffalo.
Impact
Simpson may have been limited in Week 2 as well, where he made one catch while playing just 15 snaps against Toledo. The senior Simpson led the Minutemen with 57 grabs for 792 yards and three touchdowns last year. Simpson should be viewed as questionable ahead of a Week 4 matchup with Central Connecticut.

Quiet Day in Opener
Simpson could not get going in the season opener with only two catches for 11 yards in the Minutemen's 28-14 loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
Impact
The senior was targeted six times against Eastern Michigan. In 2023 Simpson caught 57 passes for 792 yards and three touchdowns. It did not help Simpson that Massachusetts' quarterback Taisun Phommachanh was sacked six times in the game. The Minutemen are expected to get Simpson in gear this Saturday (Sept. 7) against Toledo.

Struggles again with two catches
Simpson only had two receptions for 33 yards in Massachusetts 31-21 win over FCS opponent, Merrimack, on Nov. 4.
Impact
Simpson has not been able to repeat the magic earlier this season where the junior had 23 receptions for 378 and two touchdowns in a four-game stretch. In three of the four games between Sept. 16 and Oct. 7, Simpson had hundred plus receiving games. He could rebound in the next contest, Nov. 18 at Liberty. The Flames defense is in the bottom quarter of the country against the pass that allows on average two passing touchdowns per game.

Lands with Massachusetts
Simpson announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he's committed to play for Massachusetts next season.
Impact
Across the last two collegiate seasons at Arizona, Simpson logged just eight receptions for 102 yards in that span. He also handled kick returns throughout the 2020-23 campaign, but he'll now hope for a larger offensive role with the Minutemen.

Drawing eyes in camp
Simpson has drawn praise in fall camp for his work ethic and ability to play all three wideout spots, Michael Lev of the Arizona Daily Star reports.
Impact
Lev suggests that Simpson is likely aligned as the first receiver off the bench, meaning an injury to any of the starters would likely open a spot for him in the unit. At this point, he shouldn't be considered for most college formats, but Simpson appears to be trending toward becoming a future contributor and seems likely to see some reps in 2022.
