Returning to College Station
Smith (ankle) announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he'll return to Texas A&M for the 2023 season.
Impact
Rather than entering the 2023 NFL Draft or pursuing his options at another school during the upcoming fall, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound wideout will stick around in College Station for his fifth and final year of eligibility. Smith was limited to just four appearances in 2022 after suffering a season-ending fractured ankle in September and requiring surgery, but he should re-emerge as the No. 1 wideout for a rebuilt Texas A&M receiving corps during the upcoming season. Over his first four seasons with the Aggies, Smith has tallied 127 catches for 1,612 yards and 17 touchdowns while also carrying 67 times for 384 yards and four scores.

Requires season-ending surgery
Smith will undergo season-ending ankle surgery this week, Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com reports.
Impact
Smith was seen in a boot after his leg was rolled up on during the second half of Saturday's game against Arkansas. He sustained a broken fibula which is expected to heal on its own, but he'll require surgery to address an ankle injury. The senior will miss the remainder of the season but hopes to be ready to participate in pre-draft workouts. Over his four seasons at Texas A&M, Smith secured 127 of 207 targets for 1,612 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing 67 times for 384 yards and four scores.

Spotted with boot
Smith (lower leg) was seen wearing a boot on Texas A&M's sideline after exiting Saturday's game, Travis L. Brown of The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports
Impact
Smith got rolled up on his leg during the second half against Arkansas, and now appears unlikely to return given his status on the sideline. The senior wideout caught 14 passes (22 targets) for 259 yards and two touchdowns over the first three games this season, leaving Chase Lane and Evan Stewart to take over the bulk of the Aggies' receiving production.

Suspension lifted
Smith had his suspension lifted by Texas A&M on Tuesday after the university reviewed his arrest from last week, Mark Berman of KRIV Fox 26 reports.
Impact
The senior wideout was automatically suspended per athletics department policy last week after being arrested and charged on counts of driving while intoxicated, unlawful carrying of a weapon and marijuana possession, but attorney Craig Greening said Tuesday "the university believes in his [Smith's] innocence" and chose to lift the suspension after reviewing the case. Smith caught 47 of 81 targets for 509 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last year and will enter 2022 as the Aggies' top wide receiver.
