Suiting up Thursday
Groce (illness) will be available for Thursday's game against Georgetown, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
Just as head coach LaVall Jordan suggested two days would likely be the case, Groce is ready to make his return to the lineup after sitting out the past two games while in the COVID-19 protocol. Before missing time, Groce had appeared in each of the Butler's prior 11 contests, starting in seven of them while averaging 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 three-pointers in 20.0 minutes.

Expected to play
Groce (illness) is expected to play in Thursday's game against Georgetown, David Woods of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Impact
Groce has been averaging 20 minutes a game for Butler so his presence on the floor will be gladly welcomed back. Groce should allow for Bryce Nze to get a little more rest and play fewer minutes than he has been.

Won't play Friday
Groce (COVID-19 protocols) will be unavailable for Friday's game against Xavier, David Woods of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Impact
Groce sat out Tuesday's matchup with Seton Hall due to the COVID-19 protocols and will miss a second straight contest Friday. His next chance to take the court will come Jan. 13 at Georgetown.

ROTOWIRE
Will not play
Groce (Covid-19 health and safety protocols) will not play in Tuesday's game against Seton Hall.
Impact
After playing just eight minutes in Butler's win over DePaul, Groce's return to the floor will be put on pause Tuesday. Groce, a regular starter for the Bulldogs, averages 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Bryce Nze is likely to replace Groce in the starting lineup. Groce's status for Friday's tilt against Xavier is unclear.

Leading rebounder in win
Groce closed with eight points (4-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists and one block across 25 minutes during Saturday's 66-54 win over Eastern Illinois.
Impact
Groce was able to find gaps in the defense early to slash his way to his best offensive performance in three games. He played defender for a majority of the second-half to help hold Eastern Illinois to just 20 points in the paint on the night. Through his six starts of the season, the senior has averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds during 22.5 minutes.

Gets start with Nze out
Groce will start Monday's game against Houston.
Impact
Groce looked good last time out against Michigan State when he had to take over for Bryce Nze, who suffered a shoulder injury. With Nze out again, Groce will get the start and could play a vital roll for the Bulldogs in the Maui Invitational.

Productive in Nze's stead
Groce notched 15 points (4-13 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 4-6 FT), eight rebounds, one assist and two steals in 26 minutes during Wednesday's 73-52 loss to Michigan State.
Impact
Groce saw a big uptick in playing time in this one after starting power forward Bryce Nze went down with a shoulder injury after just seven minutes. The Eastern Michigan transfer ended up being the main beneficiary of the extra available minutes, leading the Bulldogs in both scoring and rebounding. The status of Nze is uncertain for the time being, but any absence seems like it would lead to extra production for Groce.

Set to make debut Friday
Groce (knee) is expected to make his season debut Friday against Central Arkansas, David Woods of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Impact
Groce was forced to miss Butler's season opener against IUPUI with a sore knee. The Eastern Michigan transfer will likely see minutes off the bench behind Bryce Nze on Friday against Central Arkansas.

Won't play in opener
Groce (knee) will not play in Tuesday's season opener against IUPUI, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
Groce sat out both exhibition contests for Butler, though he was considered closer to returning than teammates Bo Hodges and Myles Tate -- both of whom have been officially ruled out as well. Groce is a two-time double-digit scorer for Eastern Michigan who should be able to contribute off the bench for Butler in what would be his final year of eligibility. His next chance to suit up will be Friday against Central Arkansas.

Sits another exhibition
Groce did not take the court in Friday's exhibition against Indianapolis due to precautionary reasons, Lukas Harkins of Heat Check CBB reports.
Impact
Groce has now missed both Butler exhibition contests, but unlike teammates Bo Hodges and Myles Tate, his recovery is expected to be much swifter. Harkins followed up in a later tweet to clarify that Groce "has a banged knee" and didn't feel the need to suit up for a relatively low-stakes exhibition. It's even possible he takes the court for the official opener Tuesday against IUPUI.

Misses exhibition
Groce did not take the court in Saturday's exhibition victory over Tiffin, Lukas Harkins of Heat Check CBB reports.
Impact
All the report specified was that Groce was out for "precautionary reasons," so it's unclear what type of injury may be afflicting him at this time. We'll likely get a better picture of the Eastern Michigan transfer's status next Friday, when Butler hosts Indianapolis for a final exhibition matchup. Groce was a back-to-back double-digit scorer during his final two seasons with the Eagles, and should play a role early with the likes of Myles Tate and Bo Hodges nursing their way back from injury.
