Scoring better against Saint Mary's Newton closed Sunday's 70-55 win over Saint Mary's with 13 points (4-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal across 27 minutes.

Impact Newton logged four points (1-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) across 24 minutes during Connecticut's first-round game of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. At least scoring-wise, he was better during their second-round matchup against Saint Mary's. Newton's scoring still leaves a lot to be desired though, and he will look to pick up the slack against Arkansas on Thursday, when he will also be assigned to guard Davonte Davis or Nick Smith, two guards each with high upside for varying reasons.

Impact Newton was back in the starting five after getting benched Thursday in favor of Hassan Diarra, and while it was a rough shooting day, the senior point guard had enough ancillary stats for it to still be considered a successful fantasy performance. Look for Newton to continue serving as the Huskies' primary ball-handler as they look to make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

His scoring has been modest lately, but Newton's well-roundedness has been on display over his last three contests. The senior transfer is averaging 10.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game over that span.

Impact This marked Newton's second triple-double of the season. His first came back on Nov. 15 against Buffalo when he had 22 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. UConn hasn't been the same team they were the first couple months of the season, but this play by Newton helped the Huskies get a big win over another top team in the Big East. Over the last four games, Newton is now putting up 17.8 points, 6.3 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.8 three-pointers per contest. UConn will need another big game from the ECU transfer if they hope to pull out a road win on Saturday over Creighton.
