HC hopeful for big leap Iowa's head coach Ben McCollum recently announced that the team is hoping Sage can make a big leap next season, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact During the 2026 NCAA tournament, Sage provided breakout potential, having twice logged at least 10 points in back-to-back games before Iowa's elimination. Across his 37 games (zero starts) last season, he averaged not only 16.1 minutes but also 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds, all as a true freshman. Next season, Sage is due for an improved role, which should significantly increase his statistical production with Iowa.

Impact Tate picked an incredible time to have the best game of his freshman year, setting season-highs in both scoring and rebounding and helping the Hawkeyes advance to their first Elite Eight since 1987. He had scored just two points in 15 minutes combined in two previous matchups against Nebraska this season, making the standout effort here all the more impressive. He was essentially the perfect counter punch for Nebraska's versatile bigs that could shoot the three, and while it's unclear if this will carry into the Elite Eight against the Illini, it is worth noting he scored 13 points across 29 minutes in a previous loss to Illinois back on Jan. 14.

Impact Sage had a very solid day in Iowa's win over Washington, connecting on 3-of-4 shots for an efficient outing. The freshman has been largely efficient all season, shooting 52 percent from the field and 41 percent from distance, albeit on 4.2 shots from the floor per game. Sage's role remains small, but he can pack a scoring punch off the bench from time to time.
