Vaaks leads Providence against Villanova after 21-point game

Providence hosts the Villanova Wildcats after Stefan Vaaks scored 21 points in Providence's 97-84 loss to the Xavier Musketeers

JANUARY 13 • Associated Press

Season-high 21 points off bench Vaaks closed Saturday's 97-84 loss to Xavier with 21 points (7-15 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal across 32 minutes.

Impact Vaaks set a new season high with 21 points in Saturday's loss, simultaneously extending his streak of scoring double digits in every game so far this season. He took 10 three-pointers for the sixth time this season, burying three of them for the third time in his last four contests. Although he came off the bench in his fourth straight contest, he's playing 31 minutes per game over that stretch so he's still playing starter-level minutes.

Scores 19 off the bench in opener Vaaks amassed 19 points (5-9 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 6-6 FT), one rebound, two assists and two steals in 20 minutes during Monday's 89-79 win over Holy Cross.

Impact Vaaks started his season off well Monday as he led the team in scoring in his collegiate debut despite coming off the bench. He scored those 19 points on just nine field goal attempts, thanks in part to his six free throws and three 3-point makes. Given his production in the season opener, and the fact that he played 20 minutes, it appears he will be involved in the Friars' rotation this season as a true freshman.
