Eligibility concerns Towns is still awaiting an eligibility waiver from the NCAA for the 2023-24 season, Jeff Goodman of Stadium reports.
Impact Despite recently gaining medical clearance after offseason back surgery, Towns is apparently still waiting on a waiver as a two-time transfer. Towns turned 26 years old a day before the scheduled Nov. 6 season opener, which would make him one of the oldest players in college basketball, if cleared.

Supposedly gains medical clearance Towns (back) has been fully cleared for all basketball activities, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Towns is one of the oldest players in all of college basketball, as he began his career with Harvard back in the 2016-17 season. Due to multiple significant knee and back injuries, he's played just three seasons since then, most recently in 2020-21 as a bench player for Ohio State. Fans might get a better picture of his role at Howard on Wednesday night, as the Bison are set to face Capital in an exhibition matchup to prepare for their Nov. 6 season opener against Hampton.

Impact Towns doesn't have a clear timetable for his return from a back issue that has prevented him from playing at all this season. Needs more recovery time Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said Monday that Towns (back) remains on track for a mid-to-late December return, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Towns remains on the mend from September back surgery and looks like he'll need at least a couple more weeks to heal up. The sixth-year senior has contended with a number of injuries dating back to his time at Harvard, and he may face a minutes restriction once he's eventually cleared to play again. After sitting out the entire 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, Towns averaged 10.9 minutes over 25 appearances in 2020-21, his first at Ohio State.
