Scores 16 in tournament loss Mela notched 16 points (7-14 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 36 minutes during Thursday's 85-72 loss to St. John's.
Impact Mela scored 16 points in his fourth consecutive game Thursday, but it was not enough to avoid elimination at the hands of the Red Storm. With the loss, Mela and the Friars' season comes to a close. He made 32 appearances (21 starts) this season and averaged 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 25.6 minutes per game. He showed signs of being a consistent producer from a scoring perspective and on the glass during the second half of the season, so the sophomore figures to be an important player for Providence next season should he return.

Impact Mela was one of the Friars' only bright spots Wednesday as he scored 17 points for the fourth time this season and the first since Jan. 7. He only needed seven field goal attempts to get there too as he hit three triples and sank all four of his free throw attempts. He also grabbed eight boards for the seventh time this season in his productive 31 minutes on the court.

Scores 19 off the bench Mela finished Wednesday's 103-98 OT loss to UConn with 19 points (5-9 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 8-9 FT), three rebounds and one assist across 26 minutes.
Impact Mela scored a season-high 19 points in Wednesday's overtime loss, and he did it on just nine field goal attempts. He hit eight of his nine free throw attempts and hit his lone attempt from beyond the arc as he and the Friars nearly knocked off UConn. Although he's now come off the bench in each of the last three games, he's still seeing similar playing time compared to when he was starting and he still clearly can make an impact off the bench.

Impact Mela, who played 22 minutes in each of the first two games of the season, got his first start of the season Tuesday. He took advantage of his opportunity as he logged a double-double, ranking first on the team in rebounding and second in scoring. He made two of his four three-point attempts and went perfect on his six shots from inside the arc. He has showed his rebounding ability as well as some positive signs in the scoring department so far this season, so he's a name to watch as the season progresses.
