Excells in starting opportunity
Slazinski ended with 18 points (4-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 8-9 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and one block over 34 minutes during Monday's 67-59 win over Missouri State.
Impact
With Akok Akok out indefinitely due to an undisclosed medical emergency, Slazinski filled his role in the starting lineup and on the stat sheet, leading the team in scoring and finishing second in rebounds. The graduate transfer from Iona will remain a key piece in the starting lineup for West Virginia while Akok is sidelined and should continue to contribute as their sixth man upon Akok's return.

Puts in 21 from bench
Slazinski had 21 points (5-12 FG, 3-4 3 Pt, 8-10 FT), four rebounds and two assists across 26 minutes off the bench in Friday's 85-78 exhibition victory over George Mason.
Impact
Slazinski didn't get the start in this matchup, but he tied Jesse Edwards for the team-high in both scoring and field goals attempted. He also appears to be a likely candidate to step into the starting five in place of Akok Akok, who collapsed on the court in a scary incident Friday but is now fortunately OK. Nonetheless, Akok doesn't currently have a return timetable, and the West Virginia frontcourt depth was already a bit thin, so Slazinski could jump immediately on the fantasy radar to open the 2023-24 campaign.

Undergoes season-ending surgery
Slazinski will undergo season-ending surgery, coach Rick Pitino announced via his personal Twitter on Jan. 16.
Impact
Slazinski is a player who has been eating up frontcourt minutes for head coach Rick Pitino since back when he was a freshman at Louisville in the 2019-20 season. He's been limited by an ankle injury for much of the 2022-23 campaign, which has resulted in him only appearing in seven games (three starts) out of a possible 16 contests for the Gaels. Slazinski appears likely to be granted a fifth year of eligibility, but in the meantime, look for Nelly Junior Joseph to take on an even greater role as the rotation tightens up.

Limited production in return
Slazinski (undisclosed) tallied six points (2-8 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound and one block in 17 minutes during Friday's 75-69 win over Fairfield.
Impact
Slazinski struggled with efficiency in his first outing back from a three-game absence. He played his fewest minutes of the season and will likely look to work back toward his usual workload.

Out Friday due to ankle sprain
Slazinski has been ruled out for Friday's contest against Vermont due to a high-ankle sprain, Maddie Ahmadi of Students Demand Action reports.
Impact
The transfer forward totaled 36 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and two steals in 69 minutes over Iona's first two games of the season, so his absence will be a huge blow. The senior's next chance to suit up will come Nov. 28 against Santa Clara.
