Fred Hoiberg Takes Blame for Nebraska Having Just 4 Players During Pivotal Play
Tate Sage - X-factor against Huskers Sage posted 19 points (6-10 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds and three assists over 29 minutes during Thursday's 77-71 win over Nebraska.
Impact Tate picked an incredible time to have the best game of his freshman year, setting season-highs in both scoring and rebounding and helping the Hawkeyes advance to their first Elite Eight since 1987. He had scored just two points in 15 minutes combined in two previous matchups against Nebraska this season, making the standout effort here all the more impressive. He was essentially the perfect counter punch for Nebraska's versatile bigs that could shoot the three, and while it's unclear if this will carry into the Elite Eight against the Illini, it is worth noting he scored 13 points across 29 minutes in a previous loss to Illinois back on Jan. 14.

Pryce Sandfort - Ends season with 25-point effort Sandfort registered 25 points (8-13 FG, 6-10 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, two assists and one steal across 34 minutes during Thursday's 77-71 loss to Iowa.
Impact Sandfort played his first two collegiate seasons at Iowa and had a chance to knock his former school out of the Big Dance here, and while he gave it his best go with six three-pointers, it wasn't enough to prevent the game from getting away from the Huskers. In three NCAA Tournament games, Sandfort has knocked down 16 total three-pointers at a success rate of 57.1 percent. He may be an early favorite to lead the country in three-point shooting provided he returns for his final season of eligibility in 2026-27.

Bennett Stirtz - Leading scorer as Hawkeyes advance Stirtz supplied 20 points (7-15 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds and four assists over 40 minutes during Thursday's 77-71 win over Nebraska.
Impact Stirtz was one of just two starters in double figures for the Hawkeyes, but it was enough to help Iowa advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1987, where it will take on another Big Ten foe in Illinois. It was the first time Stirtz hit the 20-point mark this NCAA Tournament and second time he's hit that mark in the month of March. The shots don't always fall -- he's shooting 33.3 percent from the field in the Big Dance -- but the senior remains a pivotal floor general who literally hasn't left the court in the last three games.
