Declares for 2026 NBA Draft
Brown (back) has declared for the 2026 NBA Draft, according to Matthew McGavic of SI.com.
Impact
Brown was Louisville's top prize of the 2025 recruiting class, a five-star point guard that arguably ranked the best in the position. While healthy, he proved his worth, backed up by 18.2 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 three-pointers made and 1.2 steals per game on 41.0/34.4/84.4 shooting splits. If anything, Brown's problem was staying healthy, as he barely scraped 20 games because of a persistent back issue that may remain a negative part of his high stock going into the 2026 NBA Draft. As long as Brown's injury is not debilitating, he is projected to be a lottery pick for his scoring and playmaking.

Out for two rounds
Brown (back) is out for the Round of 64 and Round 32 of the 2026 NCAA tournament, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Impact
Despite being day-to-day before the Round of 64, in which Louisville will compete against South Florida, Brown will be out for another game. Ideally for the Cardinals, they would defeat USF and have him available for the Round of 32 against either North Dakota State or Michigan State, except that will not be the case either. Thus, Louisville, likely with Adrian Wooley starting in Brown's place, will have to log at least two games without the superstar freshman who averaged 18.2 points and 2.6 three-pointers made this season.

Still day-to-day
Brown (back) is making great progress but still day-to-day, according to Matthew McGavic of SI.com.
Impact
For the entirety of March, a lower-back injury has affected Brown's availability, so much so that he did not play the 2026 ACC tournament. Averaging 18.2 points and 2.6 three-pointers made this season, he has proven to be one of Louisville's top scorers (alongside Ryan Conwell) when healthy, so his potential absence in the NCAA tourney would be a big deal. In the meantime, Brown has just about half a week to recover before the Cardinals' first-round game Thursday with American Conference champion South Florida.

Will miss ACC Tournament
Brown (back) will miss the entire ACC Tournament with the hopes of being ready for the NCAA Tournament, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
Brown missed the final two games of the regular season, and regardless of how far Louisville advances in the ACC Tournament, the star guard won't suit up. The Cardinals want to have their star guard ready and as healthy as possible for the NCAA Tournament. Brown averaged 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in the regular season.

Progressing well, return soon
Louisville's head coach Pat Kelsey announced that Brown (back) is progressing in his recovery and will return soon, according to Matt McGavic of Sports Illustrated.
Impact
March began with an injured Brown, who missed Louisville's first two games of the month, which were also the Cardinals' last regular-season matchups before the ACC tournament. Brown progressing well and potentially returning soon suggests there is at least a small possibility that he will return for the Cardinals' next game, currently scheduled for the conference tourney's second round, which will see them face the winner of Syracuse and SMU. Even though Louisville did just fine without him for two games, he provides a big boost, especially with his scoring. Despite not playing Syracuse this season, Brown logged 20 points and three three-pointers made earlier in the year against SMU.

Inactive against Miami
Brown (back) will not appear in Saturday's game against Miami.
Impact
Brown will miss his second-straight game with a back injury as the Cardinals close out the 2025-26 season against the Hurricanes on Saturday. The 6-foot-5 freshman's status for the ACC Tournament remains unclear at this time. Brown, who is averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.2 steals across 21 games, will continue to have his status monitored ahead of the Cardinals' postseason activity.

Ruled out Tuesday
Brown (undisclosed) won't play in Tuesday's game against Syracuse.
Impact
Brown has been tending to an unknown injury recently, as he played limited minutes off the bench in Louisville's most recent game. The Cardinals won't push Brown to play through the issue Tuesday, instead giving the star freshman additional time to rest. Brown missed eight straight games earlier in the season because of a back injury. His next chance to play will come Saturday at Miami.
