Impact Simmons hadn't taken the court since going down with a season-ending Achilles injury in October of 2020, but he has evidently been cleared for game action as of Thursday. The senior forward averaged just 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in 27 games off the bench in 2019.

Out for season North Texas announced Wednesday that Simmons has been ruled out for the 2020-21 season with an Achilles injury, Brett Vito of the Denton Record-Chronicle reports.

Impact The reserve forward appeared in 57 games for the Mean Green over the last two seasons. Though he won't suit up in 2020-21 while he's on the mend from the major injury, Simmons stands to qualify for a medical redshirt that would allow him to return to North Texas in 2021-22 if he so chooses.
