Badger Basketball Exit Meetings: Is the Jack Janicki breakthrough finally on the horizon?

Will return to Wisconsin
Janicki (wrist) will return to Wisconsin for the 2026-27 season, according to Nick Osen of 247Sports.com.
Impact
Janicki appeared in 26 contests in the 2025-26 season, averaging 2.2 points, two rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals on 16.5 minutes per game while starting once. He was hampered by a wrist injury, but if he stays healthy for the 2026-27 campaign, he should play a steady role in the Badgers' backcourt.

ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Thursday
Janicki (wrist) will not appear in Thursday's game against High Point.
Impact
Janicki will remain sidelined for a ninth-straight game after undergoing surgery on a broken wrist in February. The 6-foot-5 sophomore has appeared in 26 games this season, averaging 2.2 points, two rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals on 16.5 minutes per game. Janicki was considered "a possibility" to be available in the NCAA Tournament, and his status will continue to be monitored if the Badgers advance.

ROTOWIRE
Possible for NCAA Tournament
Badgers coach Greg Gard said prior to the Big Ten Tournament that Janicki (wrist) is "a possibility" for the NCAA Tournament, Kendrick Stumbris of Sports Illustrated reports.
Impact
Janicki didn't see the court in any Wisconsin's three conference tournament games, but it sounds like that was the plan all along. The Badgers open up against High Point on Thursday afternoon, and we'll presumably get updates on both Janicki and Nolan Winter (ankle) prior to tip via the availability report. Should Janicki be able to return, he'll provide guard depth and another three-point shooting option of the bench.

ROTOWIRE
Undergoes surgery, out indefinitely
Janicki underwent surgery Thursday to mend a broken wrist and the sophomore guard is out for the foreseeable future, per Evan Flood of On3.com.
Impact
Janicki got banged up in the Badgers' loss to Ohio State on Tuesday, and Wisconsin's worst fear have essentially been realized as the guard is out indefinitely and could sit out the rest of the season. This should mean more minutes for Hayden Jones, Wisconsin's freshman from New Zealand, down the stretch.

ROTOWIRE
Banged up in loss to Buckeyes
Janicki is dealing with a hand or wrist injury he suffered in Wisconsin's loss to Ohio State on Tuesday, per John Steppe of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Impact
Janicki has played a moderate role for the Badgers off the bench this season, mainly for his defense. The sophomore guard is only averaging 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds, but he's played at least 10 minutes in all but two games this season. His status is currently unknown, but if the Badgers lose him for a significant amount of time, their back court depth would suffer.

ROTOWIRE
Nothing doing in Champaign
Janicki closed Tuesday's 92-90 OT win over Illinois with zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), one rebound and one assist over nine minutes.
Impact
Janicki has only scored in one of his last five games. He's not on the court to produce; he's on the court to be in the right spot at the right time defensively. His nine minutes against the Illini were well below his season average of 17.4 heading into the contest, but against the Illini' No. 1 ranked offense in the nation, Wisconsin needed to make sure it had scoring prowess on the floor at all times.

ROTOWIRE
Starting Saturday
Janicki is included in the starting rotation for Saturday's game against Ohio State.
Impact
Janicki will start in place of Andrew Rohde (undisclosed), which will mark his first start of the season. The sophomore guard will aim to make the most of his opportunities, averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds on 17.2 minutes across 21 appearances this season.

ROTOWIRE
Quiet statistical output in win
Janicki accumulated zero points (0-1 FG), one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 67-63 win over Minnesota.
Impact
Janicki's stat sheet doesn't look like much, but he's earning consistent minutes for his defense. Thus, fantasy managers would be wise to steer clear, even though he's a key cog off the bench for head coach Greg Gard's squad.

Cans two triples in win
Janicki racked up six points (2-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT) and three rebounds over 24 minutes during Tuesday's 80-72 win over UCLA.
Impact
Janicki has done next to nothing for the Badgers this season, but he hit two big three-pointers to help Wisconsin bury UCLA for its second conference win. Janicki has struggled to make an impact off the bench this year, but he'll look to use this performance as a catalyst for better play moving forward.

ROTOWIRE
Five points in win
Janicki logged five points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), one rebound, one block and one steal across 15 minutes during Wednesday's 85-73 win over Northwestern.
Impact
Despite an increased role this season, averaging 17.9 minutes off the bench, Janicki has still been largely quiet for the Badgers. He provided solid minutes in the win over the Wildcats despite not having the best shooting night, as he can provide a spark on the defensive end (hence the block and steal). Janicki should remain a quiet yet important bench player for the Badgers moving forward.

Impact
Janicki chipped in six points, three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal during Wednesday's win over the Golden Gophers. The 6-foot-5 freshman was instrumental filling in the for the injured Max Klesmit (lower body), making hustle plays on both ends of the floor. Janicki has proven himself an effective role player when needed, but he is expected to see his workload decreased when Klesmit returns to action.

Scores seven in rout
Janicki accumulated seven points (3-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt) and one steal over 11 minutes during Sunday's 83-55 victory over Nebraska.
Impact
Janicki knocked down all three attempts from the field, closing with seven points and a steal during Sunday's win over the Cornhuskers. The 6-foot-5 freshman, a walk-on with the Badgers, has played his way into a role with the team. Janicki is averaging just 1.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists on 10.2 minutes per game (20 appearances), but he has shown signs of development and potential with the team.

Scores nine against Arizona
Janicki ended Friday's 103-88 win over Arizona with nine points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists and one steal over 19 minutes.
Impact
Janicki converted on 2-of-4 looks from deep, closing with nine points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal as the Badgers took down #9 Arizona at the Kohl Center. The 6-foot-5 freshman has quickly emerged as a contributor off the bench for the Badgers in his first season at the collegiate level, posting 2.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game across his first four outings. While Janicki is unlikely to take on a much larger role for the program this year, the future is bright for the former top-150 prospect.
