Out against Indiana
Santiago (hand) will sit out Kent State's game Friday against Indiana, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact
Kent State will be without one of its key players for the team's first-round matchup of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Like before, VonCameron Davis is expected to fill in as a starter. Regardless, it will be tougher for Kent State to upset Indiana, though Santiago's doubtful availability should have softened the blow beforehand. Now, he can only wait to see if the Golden Flashes advance a round without him.

ROTOWIRE
Doubtful for first round
Santiago (hand) is doubtful for the first round of March Madness 2023, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact
Santiago sat out the 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament, and it is looking more likely he will be unavailable again when Kent State begins participating in March Madness this upcoming week. That will be highly unfortunate for the Golden Flashes, who are expected to face one of the higher seeds despite not knowing their opponent just yet.

Plays 28 minutes off bench
Santiago (lower leg) supplied zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes during Friday's 67-55 win over Akron.
Impact
Santiago had missed the last two games due to a lower leg injury, but he saw plenty of playing time off the bench Friday. While he had modest production against Akron, it wouldn't be surprising to see him reclaim his starting role at some point.

Warming up Friday
Santiago (leg) is warming up for Friday's action against Akron, Allen Moff of the Kent Record-Courier reports.

After missing the teams two previous games with a lower leg injury, Santiago seems to be nearing a return Friday. The 6-foot-1 guard has started in all twelve games he has played for the Golden Flashes this season, averaging 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 32.2 minutes per game. If he is unable to play Friday, his next chance to return is Tuesday against Akron.

Game-time decision Friday
Santiago is questionable to play in Friday's contest with Akron, Allen Moff of the Record-Courier reports.
Impact
Santiago missed his second-straight game for Kent State Tuesday and is dealing with a freak lower-leg injury after stepping on the foot of Ball State head coach James Whitford on Jan. 4. "It will be another game-time decision," said head coach Rob Senderoff. Santiago has started 12 games for the Golden Flashes this season, averaging nine points, three rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. If he is unable to suit up Friday, his next chance to return will be Tuesday when Kent State takes on Eastern Michigan.

Not in starting lineup Tuesday
Santiago (undisclosed) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, according to the Kent State men's basketball official Twitter account.
Impact
Santiago, a regular starter for the Golden Flashes, was not listed in the teams starting five Tuesday. Santiago's starting spot will go to Jalen Sullinger for the second straight game.
