Medically retires Baxter has medically retired from basketball as of Thursday, Alex Midnights Vejar of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Impact Baxter cited his injury history as the reason for his retirement. The 6-9 senior has played in just 17 games over the last three seasons and recently returned in early November from a torn ACL.

Enters off bench Wednesday Baxter (knee) returned to the floor in Wednesday's exhibition game against Westminster, Josh Newman reports.

Impact Baxter had not appeared in a game for the Utes since last December after suffering a torn ACL. The forward will likely see a growing role in the rotation this season as he keeps working his way back from the major injury.

Impact Baxter is recovering from a torn ACL suffered last December. He appears to be on track to suit up in the season opener against LIU-Brooklyn provided he doesn't suffer any setbacks. Baxter is a transfer from BYU who averaged 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game before going down. He should get into the frontcourt rotation this season.

Impact This is a brutal loss for the Cougars, who are already down a center in Richard Harward due to a cardiovascular issue. With no timeline for Harward's return and Baxter out for the season, BYU will have to turn to a pair of freshman in Fousseyni Traore and Atiki Ally Atiki for plenty of frontcourt minutes. Moving power forward Caleb Lohner to the five spot in a smaller alignment is another strategy that will likely be employed.

Exits with knee injury Baxter has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's game against Utah Valley due a knee injury, Jeff Call of the Deseret News reports.

Impact Baxter went down during the first half and had to be helped off the court by his teammates before he was ultimately ruled out for the night. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time, but it was reported to be a non-contact injury to Baxter's left knee.
