Mississippi State aims for fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance

Leaving Mississippi State Harris has entered the NCAA transfer portal, Portal Updates reports.

Impact Harris will depart from Mississippi State following a one-year stint with the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4 senior appeared in 34 games this past season (18 starts), averaging 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals on 23 minutes per game.

Starting against Baylor Harris is listed amongst Mississippi State's starting five ahead of Friday's matchup with Baylor.

Impact Harris will make the move into the starting five during Friday's showdown with the Bears in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-4 senior has appeared in all 33 games this season (17 starts), averaging 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals on 22.7 minutes per game. Harris will replace Riley Kugel, who has started in the Bulldogs' last nine games, in Mississippi State's first five.

Impact Harris' four three-pointers were just the third time this season he's hit four or more shots from long distance. His 18 point outing was also the most he scored since dropping 21 in a Dec. 8 blowout victory. Still, it wasn't enough to prevent a brutal and damaging loss to Arkansas just before the SEC Tournament.

Impact Harris was excellent off the bench for the Bulldogs, hitting a huge 4-of-8 triples and pulling down four boards while notching two steals as well. That's a winning performance off the bench, and Mississippi State needed it to knock off a top-10 Texas A&M squad. Harris has scored in double figures in both games since he was removed from the starting five, and his 15 points against the Aggies were his most since the 17 he dropped in the first game of SEC play on Jan. 4 against South Carolina.

Impact Harris hasn't been all that essential for the Bulldogs as of late, scoring in the single digits in three straight games. The sharpshooter has hit at least one three in all but one game this season, and his efficiency has been solid as well (40/35/75 shooting splits). He'll look to get back to a higher scoring output as the Bulldogs enter the stretch run of SEC play.

Impact Harris was solid against the Tigers, but that wasn't nearly enough to upset one of the best teams in the nation. The guard has been very solid since he became a starter, averaging 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 43.5 percent from the field. The Bulldogs, however, are simply going to struggle against the majority of their stacked conference.
