Out Saturday Khalifa (illness) is out for Saturday's matchup at West Virginia according to head coach Mark Pope, Greg Wrubell of BYU Athletics reports.

Impact Khalifa will miss his first game since November, and head coach Mark Pope also said he has "fingers crossed" that they'll be able to get Khalifa on a flight to Oklahoma for Tuesday's matchup. The junior big-man averages 5.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists on 20.2 minutes per game this year.

Impact For the second time in three games, Khalifa contributed a surprising offensive outburst in posting a new season-high in points. Khalifa is certainly capable--he posted five 20-point outings last year at Charlotte--but that hasn't been his role prior to his recent efforts. Also of note is the uptick in playing time, averaging 27.3 minutes over the last three games. Khalifa has served as a quality ball distributor this year, averaging a career-high 4.1 assists which ranks second on the team. But this scoring outburst on a team that already features six players averaging 9-plus per outing is a welcome sign for BYU and shows the depth they can throw at teams each game. Khalifa is averaging 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds over 20.1 minutes per game but has lifted that total to 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds since his court time has risen over the last three.

Khalifa has often served as a point person from the center position for BYU, leading the team in assists on the season while totaling 20 assists and just 12 points over his previous three contests. He contrasted his traditional distributor mindset and stepped up his scoring Saturday against UCF while posting a season-low one assist. Considering Khalifa ranked 10th on BYU in scoring coming into the game despite starting 10 games, the 17-point outburst appears to be an anomaly for Khalifa. But whether scoring or distributing, Khalifa will continue to play an important role for BYU moving forward in their first season in the Big 12.

Impact The big man will start for the first time this season, and he's coming off a five-point, nine-rebound performance in his previous outing.
