Teen Caden Clark leads Red Bulls to 1-0 win over Atlanta
ATLANTA (AP) — Teenager Caden Clark scored in his MLS debut, leading the New York Red Bulls a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday night.
Clark, a 17-year-old who signed with the Red Bulls earlier Saturday following a trade with Minnesota United, scored in the 47th minute. A header-attempt deflected to Clark, who fired a right-footed shot from the center of the 18-yard box that beat goalie Brad Guzan.
The Red Bulls (7-8-2) had lost four of their last five matches. Atlanta (5-9-3) had its two-match win streak snapped.
Atlanta nearly forced an own goal late when a shot by Jake Mulraney deflected off of the Red Bulls’ Daniel Royer, and hit the crossbar.
WHITECAPS 2, REAL SALT LAKE 1
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Lucas Cavallini’s goal in the 75th minute was the winner as Vancouver rallied to beat Real Salt Lake snap a four-match losing streak.
Vancouver (6-11-0) scored twice in a four-minute span, tying the game at 1-all in the 71st minute on an own goal. Real Salt Lake’s Douglas Martinez tried to clear a free kick by Michael Baldisimo with a header and instead sent the ball into his own net.
Cavallini netted the winner four minutes later, scoring on the rebound of a shot by Fredy Montero.
Damir Kreilach opened the scoring, converting a feed from Justin Meram from close range in the 37th minute for Real Salt Lake (4-7-6).
INTER MIAMI 1, DYNAMO 0
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Lewis Morgan scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, leading Miami past Houston.
Morgan's shot was set up when Houston’s Aljaz Struna committed a foul in the penalty area. The goal was Morgan’s fifth of the season.
Miami (5-10-2) won its second straight and moved within a point of Nashville for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Houston (4-6-7) and Colorado have 19 points and are tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
