Ring scores and NYCFC defeats the Crew 1-0
HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Alexander Ring scored and NYCFC handed the Columbus Crew their first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory on Monday night.
Ring's goal in the 59th minute came after Heber intercepted a poor clearance attempt by the the Crew. The goal, which snapped an 175-minute scoreless streak, was Ring's first of the year.
It was just the second win of the regular season for NYCFC, playing a home game at Red Bull Arena.
The Crew were one of three undefeated teams left in the regular season, going 5-0-1 in the games that counted before facing NYCFC.
Ring's goal was just the second the Crew have conceded this season.
The teams also met to open the regular season before it was put on hold because of the coronavirus, with the Crew winning 1-0.
NYCFC was coming off a loss to the New York Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby on Thursday, the team's restart of the regular season. The Crew defeated the Chicago Fire 3-0 the same night in their return.
