Chelsea beats Roma 2-0 and Bayern rallies to draw 2-2 with Real Madrid in Women's Champions League
PARIS (AP) — Wieke Kaptein set up goals for defenders Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan as Chelsea beat Roma 2-0 at home, while Bayern Munich rallied to draw 2-2 with visiting Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday.
Chelsea has yet to concede a goal in three games while Roma has still not scored.
Carpenter put 2021 runner-up Chelsea ahead in the 51st minute with an angled strike from Kaptein's pass and the Dutch midfielder's cross was headed home by Buchanan in the 89th.
After holding record eight-time winner OL Lyonnes to a scoreless draw in the previous round of games, Chelsea has seven points while Roma has one point.
Madrid draws again
It was a third straight draw for Madrid, which looked in control.
Athenea's early opener and fellow forward Lineth Beerensteyn's close-range header — against her former club — put Madrid 2-0 up midway through the first half.
But Spain forward Edna Imade scored in the 31st with a header from a corner and Japan midfielder Momoko Tanikawa equalized early in the second half for Bayern, which has five points.
Stylish Servette
After leaking 13 goals in two games Swiss champion Servette earned its first win in style with a 5-1 victory over winless Belgian side OH Leuven.
Midfielder Paola Hernández and forward Gloria Marinelli had two goals each and Joana Marchao completed the rout.
Later Wednesday, 2025 champion Arsenal faced Benfica and OL Lyonnes hosted Inter Milan.
The competition has six match days, with the top four teams advancing to the quarterfinals and those finishing between fifth and 12th entering knockout-phase playoffs.
Big challenge for tiny Køge
In Thursday's games, Danish minnow HB Køge must find a way to stop Barcelona when it hosts the defending champion, which routed Lyon 4-0 in last year’s final for a third European crown in four seasons.
Elsewhere, Manchester City hosts Paris Saint-Germain while Juventus goes to Austria Vienna and Paris FC faces Swedish side Häcken at Stade Charlety.
