Thomas scores 22, Albany downs NJIT 79-73 in America East opener

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Sebastian Thomas had 22 points in Albany's 79-73 win against NJIT on Saturday in an America East Conference opener.

Thomas was 6 of 16 shooting, including 4 for 8 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 8 from the line for the Great Danes (9-7). Jonathan Beagle scored 19 points while shooting 6 of 14 from the field and 7 for 7 from the line, and added 16 rebounds. Aaron Reddish shot 6 for 13 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) and 2 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with 16 points.

Tariq Francis led the way for the Highlanders (4-9) with 22 points and six assists. Levi Lawal added 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for NJIT. In addition, Mekhi Gray finished with 14 points and two steals.
