WWE reveals when Randy Orton will return from injury

Before Brock Lesnar beat Mark Hunt in his return to the octagon at UFC 200, WWE announced that the Beast Incarnate will be facing 12-time world champion Randy Orton, who has been missing from action since last September due to a shoulder injury, at SummerSlam in August. Orton and Lesnar don’t have any real connection in a WWE storyline, making the announcement more like an MMA-style booking, which fits Lesnar perfectly.

Vince McMahon teased Orton’s return months ago, and he’s had plenty of time to recover from surgery in December – but WWE fans will have to wait a few more weeks to see the Viper inside a wrestling ring. WWE announced on Monday Night Raw that Orton’s first event back will be Battleground on July 24th, where he’s scheduled to be interviewed by Chris Jericho.

This means Orton will not have made his comeback by the WWE Draft set to happen next Tuesday on SmackDown, but it’s likely that he’ll be a high draft pick by either program.
