Fire's Sarah Ashlee Barker gets devastating injury update | Sporting News Barker's breakthrough season is over.

JULY 24 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM

To undergo season-ending surgery The Fire announced Friday that Barker will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign.

Impact Barker was helped to the locker room in the first quarter of Wednesday's loss to the Wings, and she's now been diagnosed with a season-ending injury. The second-year guard took on a significant role for the Fire after the club selected her in the 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft. Across 26 regular-season games (15 starts), the 24-year-old averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals in 24.7 minutes per contest. Karlie Samuelson, Teja Oblak and Nyadiew Puoch are candidates for increased playing time in Barker's stead.

Won't return Wednesday Ashlee Barker (knee) will not return to Wednesday's game against the Wings, WNBA reporter Eddie Perez reports.

Impact Ashlee Barker appeared to suffer a non-contact left knee injury as she planted her left leg, but the Fire have not yet released any official details about the injury. For now, she should be considered doubtful for Tuesday's game in Las Vegas. Karlie Samuelson, Teja Oblak and Holly Winterburn could see a boost in Ashlee Barker's absence.

Leaves for locker room Barker (knee) was helped to the locker room in the first quarter of Wednesday's game against the Wings, Dallas beat writer Grant Afseth reports.

Impact Barker appeared to suffer a non-contact injury, as her knee buckled while planting her left leg. She immediately went to the floor, grabbing her left knee. It certainly didn't look good, as both the Wings and Fire players signaled for assistance. Barker has been red-hot lately, so it would be a big loss if she misses any time. Karlie Samuelson, Teja Oblak and Holly Winterburn could see an uptick in minutes if Barker is shelved.

Rolls up 21 points in road loss Barker totaled 21 points (9-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt), four rebounds and four assists across 30 minutes in Saturday's 101-93 loss against the Lynx.

Impact It was easily Barker's best offensive performance of July, as she entered averaging just 7.8 points per game in the first four outings this month. After a couple of uneven shooting performances to kick off July, too, she has been on fire in the past two outings, hitting 61.9% (13-21 FG) from the field, including five made three-pointers.

Records career-best four steals Barker finished with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and four steals across 24 minutes in Thursday's 75-56 win over Washington.

Impact Barker, Serah Williams and Carla Leite were the only three Fire players to reach double figures in scoring. In addition to Barker's contributions on the scoring end, she got after it defensively by recording a career-high four steals to help lead Portland to a 19-point win over the Mystics. The 24-year-old has been much more productive in 2026 compared to her rookie campaign and is now averaging career highs of 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals over 25.3 minutes in 24 regular-season appearances.

Scores nine in lineup return Barker provided nine points (3-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes during Tuesday's 90-87 loss to Connecticut.

Impact Barker was away from the team for one game due to an undisclosed reason, but she was back in the starting five on Tuesday. She wasn't particularly effective, although her work on the glass was nice, and she was perfect from the free-throw line. Her offensive production is way down in July, averaging just 7.0 points in the first three games after going for 15.3 points per game in the final four contests in June. Still, Barker has 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in July, and the offense should return shortly.

JULY 15 • ROTOWIRE

Absent from injury report Barker (not with team) is off the injury report for Tuesday's game against the Sun.

Impact Barker was away from the team for Saturday's game against Atlanta, but she's returning to the club for Tuesday. Her presence should translate to less playing time for Nyadiew Puoch and Holly Winterburn in the Fire's backcourt.

JULY 13 • ROTOWIRE

Unavailable versus Atlanta Barker (not with team) is listed as out for Saturday's game against the Dream.

Impact It's unknown why Barker is away from the team, though her next opportunity to suit up will come Tuesday versus the Sun. Without Barker on the floor Saturday, Teja Oblak, Frieda Buhner and Nyadiew Puoch should see more minutes, with one of them expected to enter the starting lineup.

JULY 10 • ROTOWIRE

Productive in defeat Barker had eight points (3-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists and one steal in 25 minutes during Thursday's 88-80 loss to the Aces.

Impact Although Barker has scored in single digits in back-to-back games, she's still putting together a much more productive campaign with the Fire in 2026 than she did with the Sparks in 2025. She has averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals in 25.4 minutes per tilt over 22 games this season.

Impact Like others in this contest, Barker finished with a career high in scoring. The 24-year-old had a quiet rookie season with the Sparks in 2025. However, it's been a different story in Portland, with Barker averaging a career-best 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.4 blocks across 25.3 minutes in 20 regular-season appearances. She has also shot 41.1 percent from deep, a significant improvement from the 2025 campaign.
