Becomes two-time UFC champion Yan won the UFC Bantamweight Championship on Saturday, defeating Merab Dvalishvili via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) at UFC 323 in Las Vegas.

Impact Yan told everyone that would listen that he wasn't healthy the first time he and Dvalishvili met back in March 2023 and that was the reason he put forth such a lousy performance. No one believed him, but now going on nearly three years later, it seems like the truth. We have never seen an opponent come remotely close to handling Merab like Yan did this evening. For starters, he stuffed 23-of-26 takedown attempts and landed four takedowns of his own. It's absolutely insane to think this fight went the full 25 minutes and Yan landed more takedowns than Dvalishvili. Virtually all of the most notable strikes also came from Yan's side, with a vicious body kick early on being the most damaging blow. Toss in the fact Yan was able to match Merab's legendary pace and you have a recipe for one of the most shocking title changes in recent memory. Yan is now a two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion and looks better and healthier than ever at age 32.

Impact Full marks to Yan for accepting this fight against a talented opponent in which he had nothing to gain from a rankings standpoint. As is typically the case, Yan got stronger as the fight progressed. He closed with an 81-64 edge in terms of significant strikes landed, in addition to picking up the only successful takedown of the bout. McGhee landed more than his fair share of damaging blows, but Yan would simply return fire and connect with multiple-punch combinations. The 32-year-old lost three in a row from April 2022 to March 2023, but has rebounded with three straight wins since. Yan is firmly in the title picture at 135 pounds.
