Max Griffin - News & Rumors - UFC

Released from UFC Griffin announced he has been released from the UFC, per his personal Facebook account.

Impact Griffin made his UFC debut in August of 2016 and went 8-11 across his career. However, he has lost his last three bouts versus Michael Chiesa, Chris Curtis and most recently Victor Valenzuela. The 40-year-old may call it a career after his release rather than try to work his way back into a contract.

Losing streak hits three Griffin lost to Victor Valenzuela via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Impact This was a pick 'em fight the 40-year-old Griffin had to have and he didn't get it. Max has really struggled to generate notable offense in recent years and this bout was no exception. He did manage to string together four successful takedowns on nine attempts, but still managed to rack up only 1:03 worth of control time. Durability remains on Griffin's side considering he's been finished just twice in his professional career, but with three straight losses on his resume and just one victory dating back to October 2022, his time with the company could be coming to a close.

Booked for UFC Vegas Griffin will take on Victor Valenzuela in a welterweight bout at UFC Vegas 116 on April 25, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.

Impact Griffin is in a bit of a rut. He's lost his last two bouts, most recently falling at the hands of Chris Curtis via Split Decision. He's also dropped three of his last four fights, dropping his UFC record to 8-10. He'll look to get back on the winning side of the Octagon against Valenzuela, who will be making his UFC debut.

Fades following fast start Griffin lost to Chris Curtis via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Nashville.

Impact An outlier performance from Griffin, combined with a rare inactive night from Curtis allowed Max to keep this one close. Griffin is known as a brawler that typically uses little head or foot movement. He spent the entirety of Round 1 bouncing around, keeping Curtis off balance. He also tired himself out in the process and was severely hampered the rest of the way. That allowed Chris to work his way back in the fight and it was Curtis that undoubtedly landed the more damaging blows. Set to turn 40 years old in November, Griffin is 2-4 in his past six bouts dating back to March 2022. Time is running out.

Will take on Curtis Griffin will face Chris Curtis in a welterweight bout at UFC on ESPN 70 in Nashville on July 12, Danny Segura of MMAJunkie reports.

Impact Griffin is coming off a loss against Michael Chiesa in his most recent bout, and he's alternated wins and losses over his past six bouts. The 39-year-old veteran will be fighting against an opponent making his UFC debut in the welterweight division.
