Drops brawl to Marquel Mederos Jones lost to Marquel Mederos via TKO (strikes) at 2:07 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sacramento.

Impact Entering sporting a 3-0 record since returning for his second stint in the UFC last May, Jones suffered a crushing loss here as upwards of a -400 favorite. It sure looked as if he did enough to win a close Round 1, although all three judges somehow scored it for Mederos. Things got considerably more dicey in Round 2 after Mason got clipped with a short elbow to the side of the head which left him wobbled. In typical Jones fashion he kept swinging for the fences in hopes of getting back on track, but it wasn't to be. The bottom line is that when you fight and physically and violently as Jones does every time out, you're going to end up on the short end of the things sooner or later. He'll be back.

Impact Jones returned to the UFC last May for his second stint with the company. He has had three fights since coming back against Jeremy Stephens, Bolaji Oki, and here against Sola and all three have been absolute wars. Jones has won each. He's quickly turning into must-see TV. Mason absorbs his fair share of damage every single time he steps into the octagon, but never quits on himself. His scrambling ability and ability to get back up after being taken down are remarkable. He simply doesn't quit and eventually breaks down his competition. It gives Jones a chance to win every single time he's in there. At age 30, Mason projects as more of an attraction than legitimate contender but you can make an awful nice living going that route. Impact Jones returned to the UFC in May following several years away and took a lopsided unanimous decision from an aging Jeremy Stephens. He had to work much harder here against Oki, although his massive heart was on full displayed once again. Jones was dropped moments after the opening bell rang and it was nothing short of a minor miracle that he was able to survive. Not only did he survive, by the time Round 1 was over, he was the one threatening to end the fight. Jones was able to carry that momentum over into Round 2 and earn the win with a barrage of unanswered elbows. Mason's aggressive style makes a prolonged winning streak seem unlikely, but he's looked great since coming back to the company.

Impact Jones was released from the UFC following a July 2022 loss to L'udovit Klein. He hopped over to Cage Warriors on the European regional scene and picked up four straight wins to earn another shot with the company. He got it here against Stephens and looked good as the biggest favorite on the card at -650. Jones gave the fans a show on the feet, but ultimately leaned on his wrestling game to secure the win. He landed 8-of-12 takedown attempts, good for 6:03 worth of control time. Jones appears to have made some legitimate improvements during his time away and he turned just 30 years of age days ago, so there could still be some upside moving forward.
